I liked season 3 alot better then the forst 2, what do you think ?

Transformers season 1 from 1984 and 85 took place on Earth for the most part with Optimums Prime and Megatron. Thire home base was in the Ark that was under a volcano and Teletran 1 was the main computer in the Ark. Spike and his Dad Spark plug often helped the Autobots.

season 3 was about Rodimus Prime and Galvatron and that season took place in space for the most part. Spike and his son Daniel do make appearances but they are not a major part of the season. There are episodes that takes place on Earth but we hardly see Earth as much as we see Space and other planets or ships. The Quintisons, the creators of the original Autobots and Decepticons had a major role in season 3.

I personally like Transformers season 3 1986/87 a LOT better then the first 2 seasons, what do you think ?

Prepare to get flamed, lol. But no, I like what I have seen of Season 3 quite a bit as well. It's so different from the first two seasons, and I think that's why I like it.

I wouldn't say it's definitely better then the first two seasons, but there are certain things I like a lot about Season 3. I like how some of the plot seems a little more mature then in the previous seasons; It seems like the stakes are a little higher. I also enjoy that there seems to be a bit more continuity between episodes.

Also, it's not in every episode, but sometimes the score changes to a sound similar to that in the Movie. I also liked this.

Now, as for what I didn't like: Seasons 1-2 may have had some bad plots, but in Season 3 if a plot missed, it seems like they missed horribly.

Also: Too many combiner and sub teams. (Technobots, Terrorcons, Throttlebots, etc.) With so many, they kind of lose their impact. Think about how fearsome Devastator was supposed to be when he was first introduced. Now there's 6 other robots/teams just like him.

I liked Season 3 but I still prefer Season 1 and 2 just for nostalgic reasons.

Season 3 was really good because of how it delved into the history of the Transformers. We got to see more about their creation, little bits about Unicron and it was neat to how they dealt with not having Prime around.

Season 3 had some OK concepts but I didn't feel like the new characters had the same sort of charm as Seasons 1 or 2. In fact some of them I can barely stand watching. It's always a breath of fresh air when the original characters come back. From what I've read it sounds like they were realizing that and trying to fix things but by then it was too late.

It's hard for me not to resent the 3rd Season because of how the movie was handled. I love how the original G1 characters really come into their own in the first half of the movie and you saw a lot of their potential realized. But just as quickly they're suddenly very unceremoniously kicked out of their own film for some celebrity voice actors and under developed new toys. It wasn't a good creative or business decision in any sense and it's no surprise the show didn't last much longer.

I'm right there with you. The movie is a lot of fun and the music is awesome (Heck I even love the Weird Al scene, lol). If the G1 characters had been allowed to finish the film I think it would have been perfection. :)

Hasbro drove him to introduce silly characters and to focus more on the new toyline than to really continue and develop characters that already existed

I do feel like Hasbro underestimated its audience and assumed that kids would just buy anything. It's your classic business gaffe like New Coke or Netflix's recent troubles, hehe.

There were a lot of dangling story lines they could have returned to on G1, certainly from Fire in the Sky or Secret of Omega Supreme. I think any other series would have thought to do this but the priority here was "bring in the new toys."

Oh well, that's why we have fanfics I guess, lol. ;)

i find season 3 to just be terrible on all fronts. the only thing i liked was Starscream's return (a robot ghost? ..take that futurama lol) and the spore/return of Prime two parter.

i know many kids were freaked or saddened by Prime's death in the movie......me, i was more affected by Starscream's death. partly because he's always been my favorite character but also it just seemed unfair. autobots were dying left and right and then Starscream is the only decepticon to actually die? how rude!! i mean at least the ones who were dying got a new body thanks to Unicron. i mean dont get me wrong, character wise, he totally had it coming lol but it was just heartbreaking to see. but at least he had an awesome death scene. from the beginning of his coronation do his actual death, that whole sequence is awesome. i loved how they re-did the scene (minus his death)in the fall of cybertron game.

That was the one & only quality of season 3

Fully agree with you. As far as I was concerned the 86 movie was the Transformers finale. The Autobot Decepticon rivalry just never seemed balanced after that.

Exactly. I mean once Unicron was defeated to have Galvatron and Co. just go on like nothing had happened was just anti-climatic. A friend of mine also pretty much considers the movie to be the series' big ending. And it makes sense, I mean the movie ups the stakes with characters actually getting killed in a war, etc., but then we go on to the 3rd season and back to the old "no one gets killed" rule? It doesn't make sense, lol. ;)

No way they could've done that with our beloved Gen 1 season 1 & 2 characters.

On the contrary, I actually think they could have handled mature stories a lot better than the jump the shark third season characters did. But agree to disagree. :)

However they should've at least thrown us a bone & kept on at least 4-5 familiar Autobots & Decepticons we could relate to + watch develop with the newer bots.

I'm sure that had the writers had control over that, then they would have. But due to certain matters they had little say in (Scatman Crothers dying, Casey Kasem quitting, Hasbro forcing them to replace certain old characters with new toys), they had no option but to put most of the few classic Bots that survived the movie to rest. I see it as something of a miracle that guys like Grimlock, Blaster, Perceptor and Soundwave, not to mention Starscream were still allowed not only to show up but have entire episodes built around them.

... Well, I guess Kasem quitting was partly their fault...

I think the toys for those characters were still available in stores when Season 3 aired. They're pictured in the 1986 Transformers toy catalogue. Starscream, Soundwave (with Buzzsaw), Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy and Bumblebee were the only toys from the initial 1984 releases to be pictured in the 1986 catalog. Many of the 1985 releases were also in the 1986 catalogue, with the exceptions being Shockwave, Grapple, Inferno, Hoist, Skids, Red Alert, Tracks, Smokescreen and the Jumpstarters.

Any info on the availability of the toys of Jazz and Cliffjumper? Were they only written out due to what had happened to their voice actors, or would they have done away with them anyway?

Jazz and Cliffjumper weren't in the 1986 toy catalogue.

Season 1 is still king for me. There were several mini story arcs & even when they were wrapped, we'd still see carry over plot points dotting the season. Capped by the Dinobots, Insecticons, & Devastator, season 1 is all I really need.

Season 2 was simply too many characters & not enough meat on the bones. I really liked the Omega Supreme, Constructicons, Stunticons, & Aerialbots origins, but the rest felt too watered down.

Season 3 was easily the most unique & concise of them all, alas the brutal animation logic (characters they killed off in the movie kept popping up). Not to mention the sunny blue skied disposition of the show was gone- replaced by dark alien beings & outer space nonsense (oh look, yet another new planet, no larger than a parking lot).

reply

Actually, I agree. Season 3 definitely had a straighter storyline. Seasons 1 & 2 were okay, but they felt more like filler to me.

Season 1 & 2 are magical, season 3 sucks in comparison. The decision to kill off all the best characters and the reason why the show was so popular in the movie is one of the worst decisions in movie making history. Had they not done that the franchise would've remained popular. All they had to do was start a 2nd TV series set in the future that came on after the original show. That would've kept the popularity. The only thing cool about season 3 is how most the episodes take place on Cybertron or in some part of outer space. I wanted to see the original guys get more episodes like that. I was completely disappointed with the 86 movie and season 3. To this day it pisses me off. Lol
