Not surprising it sucked

Only reason it was made was to follow suit with the show it was based off.
Like with the Ropers - they tried to do the same thing that their Brit counterparts did and do American versions of George and Mildred and Robins Nest.

Both failed because unlike the Brit spinoffs there was nothing appealing to audiences to make them keep tuning in .The Ropers were no longer the bitter couple tossing Zingers at each other which made them hilarious ,they became opposite of what made them funny - becoming nicer to each other which turned off audiences and even though the ratings weren't abysmal they cancelled it anyway although I think they wanted to screw Norman Fell and Audra Lindley out of returning to 3's Company if their show didn't make it past a yr so they made a decision to cancel it and told nobody until it went past a yr thus voiding their clause which would have allowed them to return to 3's Company - execs also didn't want to pay two more salaries as they only had to pay Knotts at the time so Fell and Lindley would have been refused regardless.

And Three's A Crowd was terrible. Number one the whole premise and the way it was rushed into production .3 or 4 episodes before it was decided to cancel 3's Company -they went ahead and started casting for 3's A Crowd. Joyce Dewitt supposedly walked into the auditions for Vicki's character. Then the quick series kiss off ,first Janet goes to a reading of a will and meets Phillip then over 3 episodes gets engaged and gets married. Jack also falls in love with Vicki(gag)in merely 2 episodes ,totally ridiculous b/s and the dialog between them has to be the most annoying syrupy sweet garbage ever written for a TV show. Then we have Terri who gets no proper sendoff except to state she is taking a job in Hawaii which isn't revealed until halfway through the finale - no backstory no nothing ,just I'm going to Hawaii for a job.

Bye Bye 3's Company ,Hello ZZZ 3's A Crowd.
Boring stiff non comedy starring Mr Ritter as Jack Tripper who instead of being the fun playboy getting into trouble is now a trapped man in a sexless dull relationship. Also stuck with unappealing characters like the stupid surfer dude cook ,Vicki who is yawn unattractive and just not watchable. Robert Mandan who is just another Mr Angelino/Mr Furley etc .The other co-stars are merely filler with no charisma. Only Richard Kline(Larry) from 3's Company bothers to even show up as a guest star. The others like Knotts(Furley),Dewitt(Janet) and Barnes(Terri) are never seen again although I doubt any of those actors would have wanted to anyway since Ritter pretty much showed them how much he cared about them by getting his own show. It sucked got cancelled to make room for Diffrent Strokes to come to ABC HAHA.

I agree with everything you stated. Three's a Crowd sucked big time. The Producers were arrogant pigs.

LOUSY!!

As much as I enjoyed Three's Company and really think John Ritter was great - Three's a Crowd is practically unwatchable.

The best word to describe it would be LAME.

It's fantastic compared to shows today but should've included Janet!

It's definitely lame compared to Three's Company or most other shows, but still better than The Ropers, and of course, at least that had 2 cast members from the original show.

Most episodes are unfunny with poor plots, but some of the earlier ones showed potential. I just watched "Vacation from Sex," which aired today on Antenna-TV, and it was actually quite funny! And normally I don't quite buy or care for Mary Cadorette as Jack's long-term love interest either. Maybe it helped that the episode was about something as relevant and natural to the show as Jack and Vicky's relationship, and not simply an excuse for Jack to spew with Vicky's father. Robert Mandan was an accomplished actor, but he was usually over-the-top on this show, and the plots with him as the focus were usually padded and forced.

TAC sucked compared to TC because Jack was not as funny. If Janet was there instead of Vicky it would've lasted 2 to 3 seasons.

Did Janet really audition for Vicky's part??
