Couldn't Janet and Terri make a guest apperance

I mean how lame for the Three's Company Crowd to not make even one apperance.

Pretty stupid.

The show wasn't THAT bad because you still had Jack Tripper in it but I think Janet would've been too pissed off to do an appearance unless she was paid a LOT!!

reply

I think Janet at least was slated to make an appearance but the show got canceled! Not sure if this is true, but i remember hearing they were planning to bring back characters in guest spots (and don't forget Larry did show up)

reply

Yeah Larry showed up and Furley should've made an appearance too.

reply

I don't know if Joyce would have done it.She was pretty upset when they decided to do this show behind her back without telling her.I actually think though Larry should have been a regular character.I mean afterall he was Jack's best friend. He even said to him in the last episode of Three's Company,he would only be living a few blocks away.

reply

I agree but it's hard to fit a single guy in a show about a monogamous couple unless Larry quit his car job and worked at the Bistro or something. LOL

reply

They could have done it.Larry was his best friend,he could have just came over to see him alot.Or they could have hung out at the Reagle Beagle.Plus they could have gotten into their usual mischief like they did on Three's Company.

reply

With the issue of cohabitation vs marriage being a major theme of the show, the character of Larry could have been interesting. Jack found the concept of marriage to be a meaningful concept, and really didn't like the idea of "shacking up". Since Jack didn't get to have that marriage commitment the temptation of Larry's bachelor lifestyle could have added some interesting tension and challenges for the characters.

Oh well. What could have been...

At any rate, as much as I loved Joyce DeWitt I am glad that the Three's Company characters remained platonic friends. Did anyone else find Tony and Angela's final season romance on Who's the Boss as awkard as watching siblings kiss? If DeWitt had been the "Vicky" of Three's a Crowd and Larry his best friend then why create a spinoff at all? A great benefit of a spinoff of a main character is to allow the main show to end on a high note while taking some of that show's magic to "reboot" it with new actors and characters and new energy. It's sad how often this fails. For every Fraiser there is a dozen Joeys.

BTW: I still think the Ropers could have easily been placed back into Three's Company by having them own the building his restaurant was in. Yea, it would have meant having him get that place a year or two earlier, but thatcould have been explained.

The Ropers schtick had gotten old. How many times you wanna hear Helen complain?

But the Ropers did great on their own show mainly because of the tension with Tambor! That show should've gone on much longer!

reply

I don't think it got old. It was just a few years later that Married with Children came out and really struck gold with that same formula and it worked for years until the show became a cartoon of itself in later years. That dynamic requires good chemistry between Lindley and Fell was just as good as that between Sagal and O'Neil.

Had the Ropers basically taken the role of Mr. Angelino they would have gotten a lot of screen time, but not nearly as much as they had in the past. That also would have helped keep their schtick from getting old (the Bundy's of Married with Children also had kids to add to the mix.

The OP obviously doesn't know the background. This show was basically the network firing the entire cast but John Ritter and the guy who played Larry. There was a movie made about Three's Company and Joyce was very upset by it. To top it off it was all done bhind her back. There is no way she would appear on this and I don't blame her.

Besides this was beyond awful. Three's Company should have been laid to rest long before it was. I remember when the shows aired I gave up on Three's Company so when this came out it was long over done. I felt the Ropers was so much better. Can not believe both got the same rating.

...............ZING!

Actually I remember now Larry moved closer to Jack.In one episode he threw a party and invited Jack.Do you remember that episode? They even had Greedy Gretchen in it.

reply

I've seen a few reruns recently. It seemed contrary to what posters are saying, Larry moved away from the area. I remember in the episode he guested in, Jack asked him something about his new area. It was a quick blurb. Larry was staying in a hotel when he threw the party. It would have been nice for a full reunion, but I doubt any of them would have done it. I think the actress who played Terri hated being on the show. I also feel it's never the same. Jack and Janet would have had an oddly distant relationship. There's no reason why they couldn't have been in touch even after going their separate ways, but that's the way the show played renewed relationships. I mean the roomates appeared to have distant relationships with their own families.

As for Jack getting together with one of the roomates, I'm glad they didn't go there. Though, if the did, I could see Jack/Terri moreso than Jack/Janet. I really didn't like finale of Three's Company. Even then Janet, Terri and co. were treated as afterthoughts. Definitely should have had the Ropers and if they could have swung it, Chrissie and even Cindy at the wedding.

reply

Not really. A lot of shows about couples have a best friend or a sibling or something in the mix.

I speak my mind and if you don't like it then that's just too damn bad!!!

reply

The Three's Company cast did show up on one of the the Ropers spin-off episode, but it did not help that series. The change to the original premise of the series into a one to one relationship really did not gel. And the change of focusing the plot to the animosity between Jack and Vicky's father got a bit repetitious. This radical shift of the plot reminded me of the M*A*S*H sequel, "After M*A*S*H" which also did not last very long after the original series ended.

reply

Joyce was mad because they were planning the spin off behind her back and being close friends with John she wasn't very happy about it at all.If you see the Three's Company tv movie they have a scene in it about that.

reply

I don't remember the show since watching it when it originally aired. But from the first episode it seemed like they were distancing the new series from the OLD series.

In the first episode of "...CROWD" Jack's aunt is visiting and doesn't know about Vicky his new girlfriend. Jack didn't even tell his parents about it.
Of course living with Janet and Terri/Cindy/Chrissy as friends was different than living with Vicky as a lover/girlfriend. But still it looked fishy like they were writing out that the other girls/series ever existed.

Though later on in the series there's the episode with Larry appearing and there's a joke about living with the previous roommates. But still the plot of the FIRST Crowd episode was the same as most of the beginning shows of 3's Company about keeping the secret about UNMARRIED people living together from your family.

But yeah Dewitt and Barnes were probably too upset about being left out of the talks about CROWD and would not ever appear in CROWD in the first season. On the other hand Richard Cline and Don Knotts turned down roles in the SPIN OFF, but the girls were not...

reply

What do you mean Richard Kline and Don Knotts turned down roles in the spinoff??

WTF??

Why was Priscilla so upset? Does anyone know? I've always hard that she said her years on the show were a bad experience but does anyone know why?

I speak my mind and if you don't like it then that's just too damn bad!!!

reply

Yeah, I'd like to know too.

Priscilla still shows up at those TV Conventions at the TC table so she couldn't have hated it THAT much!

reply

[deleted]

I heard Larry's commentary on the season 7 DVD. He WAS offered a regular part on TAC but turned it down to have the chance to have his own sitcom, His and Hers, on CBS.

It was never picked up. It gives you an idea how hard it is to be on a hit show!

reply

[deleted]

But Priscilla stayed and did a great job!

She still goes to conventions so couldn't have hated it that much!

reply

Priscilla stated on the E! THS that, even before her first ep, the press scrutiny drove her to quit. They wouldn't let her out of her contract so she had to go through with it. I think the story went something like a thousand messages on her answering machine and someone in a bathroom slid something for her to sign into her stall. She said there were very few eps where she enjoyed the work. But if you watch the bloopers, she seems to be having a pretty good time.

Showing up at conventions is a way for her to make a living 30 years later.

"If I had ya where I wanted ya, they'd be pumpin your ass full of formaldehyde!"

reply

But if she hated it so much she wouldn't go to the conventions since it would bring back bad memories! She should LOVE TC since it's the only thing she's known for!

Her career is pretty awful besides TC!

reply

Hea, don't sell her short - she showed her muff in Penthouse, too.

This show would have been okay if Janet and/or Larry were regulars. Vicky is a stale fish and the father is a bad Judge Smails, and the stupid surfer chef - why didn't they bring in the chef that hated Jack - that was one of the best parts of the later years of 3's company.

reply

Richard Kline did appear in one episode from 1985 "Deeds of Trust"

So, a thought crossed your mind? Must have been a long and lonely journey
