Case Of the Stubborns

The one with Christian Slater as a kid who's grandpa died and stubbornly refuses to go to the light and is rotting as normal....the dinner scene toward the end of the episode I legit started gagging and had to run out of the room...I admittedly have a weak stomach but...ew.

That was gross, the makeup effects were very nasty. The nose with the worms at the end was disgusting.

I actually thought the nose was hilarious. I remember watching it with my Mom way back when the episode first aired and she laughed out loud. "Case of the Stubborns" remains her favorite episode to this day.

Interesting trivia: The bit with the nose actually wasn't in Robert Bloch's original story. A long time ago, I got a paperback novel of "Tales from the Darkside". It contained a collection of the short stories that were eventually turned into teleplays for the TV series. In Bloch's original story, Grandpa didn't sneeze his nose off. The gypsy woman did indeed give young Jody a black napkin to convince Grandpa, but there wasn't any pepper in the napkin. When Grandpa went to wipe his mouth during dinner, the black napkin helped make a small white maggot stand out. Obviously, the show's producers thought that the maggot on the napkin wouldn't be sensational enough, so they added the pepper and the nose to the story.

It was one of the things that made this show great.

Do you watch other horror? Because there's no way a horror buff could have that week of a stomach.

reply

Yes I do love horror (i am the op just a different name) and yes I do have a very weak stomach, it is a vicious curse. I usually get around it by not watching gross shit while eating. Believe me it is very possible.

I find it funny that everyone always mentions Christian Slater, but forget Brent Spiner is in it as well.

Care killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back

reply

I did not forget Brent Spiner was in it I just didn't care.

reply

He was actually very funny in it. Heck, everyone was. Especially the stubborn old coot.
