It was 30 years ago today that...

...Santa Barbara premiered on NBC.

reply

I miss the good old days

Of course, I would have been only 2 at the time, but still.

reply

PopperTheFeistyPenguin, what did you particularly like about Santa Barbara?

reply

Well, TBH, I only watched Santa Barbara during the Eleanor/Elena days when Eden was held captive in Utah by Cain.

I was a kid back then, but my grandmother used to watch this and 'The Bold and the Beautiful' everyday and I remember that I thought this was much more exciting than B&B.

I didn't really understand everything that was going on, but I did like the Utah parts with Eden trying to escape and I had a crush on Elena for some reason.

Anyway, its mostly nostalgia.

If it was so exciting they wouldn't have canceled it.

Well, Lizi325, SB premiered on July 30, 1984. It didn't go off the air until January 15, 1993.

PopperTheFeistyPenguin, I have to admit that I have no recollection of catching a single episode of Santa Barbara during its original NBC run. (I was a young boy then, and I was a lot more interested in cartoons than daytime soap operas.) However, I do have a certain level of knowledge about the series thanks to such sites as Wikipedia and YouTube.

No offense, PopperTheFeistyPenguin, but it was so upsetting what Elena did to Eden in Utah! I've also been upset over the fact that Eden's paralysis went on for so long, plus it certainly didn't help matters that Cruz thought Eden was dead for a while! Popper, do you remember when Eden lost the use of her legs all over again after she had partially regained her ability to walk? Do you have any recollection of Cruz going on trial for the "murder" of Elena Nikolas? Did you make it to the point where Eden could finally walk all by herself again? If you didn't, well...

I have the first sixteen episodes of B&B on DVD. I really hope that some fan-favorite episodes of SB will be legitimately released on DVD someday.

I too liked cartoons more than daytime soaps back then, but I used to watch casually with my grandmother because I had nothing better to do.

No offence Suprdict, but I was a kid back then and I didn't really care about what Elena did to Eden. I was a casual watcher not a rabid fan. Its only recently that I too have been catching up with SB again thanks to youtube. Like I said, its mainly nostalgia that made me seek it out though I do like it now.

I do remember Eden losing the use of her legs and I did make it to the point where Eden could finally walk by herself again.

I don't recall Cruz and the trial mainly because the courtroom stuff didn't really interest me.

It was mainly the suspense of how Eden would escape from Cain that interested me and of course Elena's evil doings

Anyway, my crush on Elena is what made me interested in SB in the first place, so she's always have a special place in my heart even if she was a very bad person.

You have to excuse me, PopperTheFeistyPenguin. I have developed a raging crush on Marcy Walker, the actress who played Eden Capwell on SB. Besides her physical beauty, she has impressed me as being such a sweet, caring, and honest person. I wouldn't mind meeting her in person someday.

Cain was often a sympathetic character, but I've been upset by horrible stuff he did to Eden when she was stuck with him in Utah.

Popper, do you remember a scene in a cave where a swimsuit-clad Eden revealed to Cruz that she had fully regained the use of her legs?

Only vaguely. I've got most of the Utah episodes from youtube, but I was searching through them and can't find this scene.

Is there a clip around on youtube so I can refresh my memory?

I got some early episodes of B&B off youtube and burned them to a DVD. Not sure if they're the first 16 though.

I loved this soap opera. To this day,it's the only one I've watched faithfully. I was in middle school when it premiered. Really wish they'd release it on DVD.

Did you particularly like Cruz and Eden, Squirrel71? How about Mason and Julia? Joe and Kelly?
