I'm from Santa Barbara, and I was wondering.......

Am I the only person here who is from Santa Barbara? I actually never knew about a soap oprah called "Santa Barbara".

Did you know that most of the smaller actors that have appeared on Seinfeld were also on Santa Barbara? Speaking of Seinfeld, Julia Louis Dreyfus's husband, Brad Hall, is also from Santa Barbara. She has been living here for over ten years now, and, of course, also lives in LA, but she comes to Santa Barbara like every weekend, and is here all summer.

I just think that's pretty cool.

I'm a film student here in Santa Barbara, saw your message on here while browsing.

We have TONS of actors here, Dreyfus is one of the many. Were basically a miniature LA, downtowns getting grungier daily (See the "Beautification" actions we've been taking lately?) Kenny Loggins, Oprah, Dennis Miller ect ect, they all live here. Montecito is filled with actors.

But anyways, yeah the show was very popular and brought in a lot of tourism, which is basically what our cities about.

we've got wayyyyy more actors than that. If you include santa barbara county we even HAD michael jackson and ronald reagan, as well as christopher loyd

its not LA, but i have certainly seen brad pitt at the albertsons on the mesa. Jeff bridges is a notable actor who lives here. oprah owns a house in montecito. the guy who owns "montecito picture company" lives in montecito. Rob Lowe began a scandal that has since utterly destroyed our local newspaper. avril lavigne lives in cito. Kirk douglas lives here too.

Its only surprising because santa barbara is such a small community and it doesnt really have any industry connection to hollywood other than the fact that so many hollywood people live here.

santa barbara is, however, an excellent city and has tons of historical significance. lockeed started in santa barbara. UCSB was one of the original nodes of the arpanet. the destructing of santa barbara coastline caused a senator to think up the idea for earth day, and so santa barbara's coast is the reason that earth day was created.

Moro I'm from santa barbara aswell and didn't know there was a soap opera that revolved around the city. But I did know that a ton of actors lived in the area, I met a bunch of them working at the fiesta 5 theater.

I'm from Santa Barbara, and I knew about this show, I just never heard about it. Apparently, it wasn't even filmed here.

I only found out about the show because while I was traveling in Europe people would ask me from I'm from. When I said "I'm from Santa Barbara," their eyes would light up. I was always surprised that they knew about such a small town in CA, but it turns out they know it from the show. A few of them asked me about characters on the show, like they're real people. They would say things like, "Do you know Kelly? How is she?" Occasionally, I played along and make up some stories for them just for *beep* and giggles.

Giggidy! Giggidy!

"Do you know Kelly? How is she?" -- it also may have been because they didn't knew the real name of the actor who played the role (sometimes it's easier to remember the character's name than the actor's one). But it's true that some people treat TV's/movies as somewhat real.

Wow. I had no idea the show was so popular in Europe if you met so many people who knew of Santa Barbara only through the show.

Very good. But brick not hit back!

About everybody knows about Santa Barbara. Yesterday somebody said I downgraded by moving from Santa Barbara - & I'm glad I did after about all my life living there. It's not the celebrities that make Santa Barbara what it is. It's like what Mark Twain said: Whiskey's for drinking; water is for fighting over. So I'd say the modern era of the town started with the 48" water conduit/pipe through the mt. from Lake Cachuma all the way down to S.B., Montecito & Carpinteria. And that came about when my family moved there so my Dad would be the head boss on the job sites to get it done. (You won't see his name on the big Bureau of Reclamation book about it because his 2 bosses stole the credit for writing it! Ah, heroes. Back then it had a new harbor & was known to be the town of the newly wed & the nearly dead.
Btw, it's Flying A Studio was only rivaled as THE film capital by Hollywood back in the day.
