C C Capwell(S)

I can't remember just how many actor's played C C Capwell? The first one didn't last long, then there was a white haired guy. Then the one who played him the longest was Jed(?) Allen. I believe there were more. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Lloyd Bochner was hired to be CC Capwell and filmed several scenes, but the actor had a heart attack and was immediately replaced by Peter Mark Richman, who refilmed Bochner's scenes. I think he aired about 2 and 1/2 months and was then replaced by Paul Burke, who lasted a month before being replaced by Charles Bateman, who lasted less than a year before being replaced by Jed Allan, who stayed until the show ended 7 or so years later.

Some interesting trivia- CC Capwell was clearly patterned after Blake Carrington from Dynasty, which is probably why they had hired the first 3 actors straight from Dynasty (Bochner played Cecil Colby, Richman played Andrew Laird, and Burke played Senator McVane).

I've never seen scenes of Bochner as CC, but he certainly would have been an imposing patriarch! I really liked Richman a lot, he was my favorite CC by far and quite sexy for an older man. Burke was an odd choice for the role, he was quite a bit shorter than the previous actor, and even though they dyed his hair brown to look younger (since he was romancing the 22 year old Santana at that time), his glasses actually made him look even older. Bateman was my next favorite CC; like Richman, he struck just the right chord of ruthlessness in business but turned into a teddy bear with his daughters. Allan was good but went over the top a lot in my opinion, but that also seemed to be what the show wanted, too.

I can't help but think of Lloyd Bochner in his two "Golden Girls" roles every time I see him now, even though I first knew him as Cecil Colby. He would have made a great C.C. But if you've seen those two "GG" ep's, you may start laughing too. (Oh, I popped your boosom! was one of his lines, to Blanche of course.)

I liked Peter Mark Richman, but couldn't imagine why they ended up letting him go. Paul Burke in and out too fast, never got a chance to make an impression. I read he hated the scripts. Charles Bateman I liked at first but when Jed Allan came on, he really commanded respect in the part. I liked when Minx (Dame Judith Anderson) shot him in the butt with her husband's old hunting gun (filled with buckshot) and the dynamics he had with the three ladies who played his wives/ex's-Robin Mattson, Judith McConnell and Marj Dusay.
