Queen of Swords

Is anyone around here familiar with this 200 show, which was a female take on Zorro? I was wondering if the dynamics between the two main villains, Colonel Montoya (Valentine Pelka) and Captain Grisham (Anthony Lemke) may have been inspired by the relation between the Sheriff and Gisburne (the way it gets portrayed in this show).

In both cases you have an older, pragmatic man who's often scornful and sarcastic to his second in command, a younger, attractive blond man who, in return, is extremely treacherous, often showing an interest for usurping his power or secretly carrying on some agenda of his own.

Two episodes from the respective shows share some interesting similarities: The QOS episode "The Emissary", has a Spanish emissary (who's accompanied by a British journalist in this case) coming to Santa Elena and threatening to replace Montoya as the new commander of the garrison- immediately gaining Grisham's support. That's quite similar to "the Sheriff of Nottingham", where de Rainault is temporarily replaced by Philip Mark and Gisburne immediately sides with the latter. Mark's Saracen bodyguard is played- interestingly enough- by Pelka. Like de Rainault forges an alliance with Robin to retrieve his power, Montoya comes up with a scheme to get rid of the emissary and eventually kills him in a twist that's a bit reminiscent of Mark's demise at Nasir's hand .

The Pelka connection makes you think.
