Actually it was kind of disappointing. Though it was really nice to see Soleil's story, there wasnt much insight on the series itself, this was more or less a Soleil Moon Frye True Hollywood Story than one on the actual show of "Punky Brewster". There wasnt much else,if anything said about the supporting cast or any other standout episodes aside from the "Just Say No" episode and the one about the Challenger shuttle explosion. What about the one where Cherie gets locked in the icebox and they revive her via CPR or any of the "Stranger Danger" episodes? What about the other kids on the show, what happened to them or the fact that actress Betty Garrett (Cherie's Gramma) is no longer with us? There wasnt any real mention about how Punky's style sort of changed as she and Cherie grew older or the fact that there really was anyone else featured on the show besides Henry and Punky. I dont even think they mentioned that Brandon was named after Brandon Tartikoff whose idea it was that the series exsisted. Also, couldnt they had've gotten any recent interviews with Cherie and Soleil? They were all dated somewhere from 2000-2004. This True Hollywood Story just seemed pasted together just so they could have one with the Punky Brewster title attached.

I totally agree with you. I just got done watching it and I was not impressed at all.

reply

Same here. I was pretty dissapointed. I was REALLY excited but then it came on, I was like "WTF?". It only had a few minutes about Punky Brewster and the rest was about Soleil. Totally dissapointing. I was really looking forward to hearing about the SERIES...not just Soleil.

reply

yeah I agree too, I was also disapointed that alot of the interviews were from 2004 or whatever and not recent, and that they didnt mention all that much about the show itself and the other episodes like I was hoping they were going to do too. it was mostly on just Soleil and her life even after Punky rather than on the show and the other cast and episodes.

Altho I still loved seeing this tho and it was good to see and hear so much about Soliel and her life before, during, and after Punky as some of it I hadnt heard or known about before. it was cool seeing their home movies and photos. and it was so cute hearing about how loving her older brother was to her and everything. and from watching her brother Meeno's interview I remembered he was the one who starred in that other tv show in the late 90's "You wish" I think even tho they didnt mention it. I hadnt realized that before lol. and I didnt really know that Soleil was also really interested in being an astronaunt, I thought it was just her character. but I remember watching the space shuttle in school when we all saw it blow up just like she did. so it was still fun and interesting to see, but I would have loved to see more about the show and the other cast too.

yeah like you said they didnt even mention or interview Casey or Amy I dont think either, and they didnt mention about Betty Garrett and they didnt even talk about or show seasons 3 or 4 or talk about how the Cherie lifesaver episode was from a real life kid who sent the story in and how lots of kids learned from that episode and stuff.

I was REALLY wanting to hear more about the series. They didn't even mention anything about Cherie's grandma's death. I was wanting to know why Allen left in the third season. I really wanted to know more about the SERIES. They should've just called it "True Hollywood Story: Soleil Moon Frye" considering it had very little to do with the actual series. Total dissapointment to me!

They already had a 'Soleil Moon Frye' 'celebrity profile' and it showed all the commentary of her from it, and yes hardly anything about the show. A utter disapointment. No Brandon, Cherry, Margaux, Allen or Betty.

It was four seasons it ran. What is up with that?

reply

All of the interviews marked "2000" were conducted for the Celebrity Profile about Soleil Moon Frye. My guess is that E! figured since Soleil is the star of Punky Brewster and Soleil can at times be synonymous with Punky (someone might say "Punky got a breast reduction" when they mean Soleil did) they figured why not kill two birds with one stone and use all their footage to make another show, this time about Punky Brewster, aka Soleil Moon Frye. It was rather disappointing but in their defense I did learn a few new things about Soleil.

Here's the deal with the documentary allegedly saying that the show ran for 2 seasons. They made a bad editing move by talking about the show being cancelled right before they went to a commercial. Yes, it was in fact cancelled from NBC. They showed clips of people talking about "moving on" and so it made it seem like E! was saying Punky only went for two years. But when they came back from the commercial break they did acknowledge the syndicated years.

As a fan of the show, I was also disappointed with the treatment that E did for the THS. If they wanted to elaborate on Soleil so much, then they should have done a 2 hour special so they could have put emphasis on the complete story, rather than 20 minutes about the show and 40 minutes on the star. Some of the better THS's that E has put together have been "Three's Company", "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Married...With Children." Even the one they did for "Charles In Charge" was a big let-down.

reply

They only talked about the series for like 10-15 minutes tops. The rest was on Soleil Moon Frye. Huge let down. They really had no right to called it the true Hollywood story Punky Brewster when it wasn't at all. Damn them. They should've known people would have noticed and some might be pissed/let down.
