Is it absolutely sick for a 26 year old guy to like this show

As stated in the subject line I am twenty years old, and can still remember watching the first run episodes back when I was a kid. I found Season 1 in the library and was absolutely excited to be able to relive my childhood. Great show. The only problem was, when I went up to the counter to check it out, the librarian actually laughed in my face. I was humiliated, but I checked it out anyway. The question is, am I really the only guy who likes this show, and is there something wrong with me liking this family friendly show? Punky Brewster will always be my favorite show, right alongside my other favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Thanks for your response, and I am glad I am not the only one. I was just humiliated when the librarian laughed at me. That wasn't very professional of her, anyway.

I can't wait until the fourth season comes out. If it does...

I am a 22 year old guy who has all released season sets and several season four episodes on tape from when it was on the Family Channel in the mid 90s. I'm just glad that I'm not alone!

reply

I only said, if it does, because I've heard a rumor or two floating around the net that due to low sales of Season 3... Season 4 might never happen. Of course, they are more than likely full of it, but considering the fact that it is taking so long for them to make a decision on its release, it has me a little worried. Anyway, I love Punky and I can't wait to get the whole series. I hope your predictions are right, because if it comes out in July, I could ask for it for my Birthday.

those of you born after 1977 have no business here. This show is before your time. When the show ended, some of you were only 4 or 5 years old at max. what would you have remembered about the show. Go reminisce on horrible shows in the late 90s and 2000's.

I'm a 28 yr old guy, and I'm not afraid to say I love this show!! We are never to old to enjoy what we like even if it is from our childhood! Punky is a very fun show!

What are the purposes of signatures!!..

Ehh, stfu starships lol.

I was born in 81, and there was plenty of Punky on TV for me when I was a young boy. And, at the time, I was too young to have any idea that the show had been made years before, so I didn't care about that. All I knew then, is that Punky was my life, and I can honestly say that at that age, I truly fell in love with her.

It had been years since I had seen an episode, but I just saw a couple that were posted on youtube (crap quality, I know), and it brought me right back.

Honestly, I did feel odd enjoying it as much as I did, because even though I am much older now, I still love her for all the same reasons that I did as a child. It was like I was six again.

I hadn't bought any of the DVD's worried that I might shatter a part of my childhood by watching it again and realizing that it was just stupid television that I loved so much as a child and realize was plain dumb now that I am an adult, but this show is still as great as it was for me so many years ago.

So, having said that, I will be buying the DVD's and I will laugh at anybody who laughs at me :)

No it's not wrong

I will be 27 next month I love this show two,

reply

I'm an 18 year old guy and I've loved the show since I was a kid. I watched it all the time.

reply

Its fine. I'm a 24 year old male and I love this show. I have loved it since I was little. Its normal. I just think the librarian was on something and I kinda hope that whatever she was on is available without a prescription in our lifetime.

reply

what are you talking about, regarding the librarian. I mean, you were too young to remember punky brewster. You were like 2 years old for crying out loud. yoU all really didn't grow up in the 80s.

reply

I was born in 83 and I remember watching it and I loved it and still do. Its possible to be 2 (or younger) and remember it.

reply

not unless it came on reruns. So I guess you don't like your own decade, the 90s.

reply

perhaps you should do a little research before making comments, to learn that the show was run in syndication after it was originally producted. I recall watching it 1990-1992 on WSBK.

reply

perhaps you should learn how to read because I just said not unless it came on reruns. By that time, it was already on reruns. Punky brewster is an 80s thing. You didn't grow up in the 80s, you didn't experience the 80s. All you know are the stereotypes.

reply

I agree. I was born in 83 and I remember almost all of the 80's. I loved this show

reply

impossible. Maybe the late 80s and that is dismal memory for you as well

reply

Starships, you sound very stupid and childish right now. If that's your dumb logic, then I better not catch you in the "Classic Flims" and "I Love Lucy" boards then.

reply

Seriously Starship.....RESEARCH so you don't sound moronic! Canceled by NBC at the end of its second season in 1986, the family sitcom Punky Brewster was revived in off-network syndication one year later -- partly due to public demand, and partly to add more episodes to the series' surprisingly successful network-rerun package. Back on duty are Soleil Moon Frye as feisty 11-year-old Penelope "Punky" Brewster and George Gaynes as her irascible-but-lovable foster father, Henry Warnimont. Also on hand are Punky's loyal school chums Cheri (Cherie Johnson), Margaux (Ami Foster), and Allen (Casey Ellison), as well as Cherie's legal guardian, registered nurse Mrs. Betty Johnson (Susie Garrett). The first of the syndicated episodes is "Reading, Writing, and Rock & Roll," featuring the then-hot singing group DeBarge. In a later two-part installment, Punky's beloved dog, Brandon, runs away from home, only to end up being "adopted" by a boy who is exactly Punky's age -- and who is about to leave for California. Also worth noting is "It's a Dog Life," in which series regular George Gaynes plays the dual role of Henry Warnimont and his man-about-town brother Lars. And of course, season three has its share of "very special episodes," notably "The Anniversary," in which Punky's friend Cherie is overcome with grief on the anniversary of her parents' deaths. In the season finale, Henry abandons his career as a photographer to open up his own restaurant -- and since it was Punky's idea to make this career move, the new establishment is christened "Punky's Place." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

I'm a 30 y/o woman, I've loved Punky Brewster since I was about 8. I had all her outfits down pat and most of the kids in my neighbourhood were convinced I was really her. ;) I loved it.

It's not sick for an adult to love this show, male or female. It's an awesome little program.

To those who bagged people who didn't grow up in the 80's, sheesh. P_iss off with the age-ist comments. Like anyone can help when they're born. I love the Brady Bunch and Little House on the Prairie - I'm no less of a fan just cos I wasn't alive during the original broadcasts.

That's kind of rude. Just because a show was on before someone was born, doesn't mean they can't like it. There's lots of shows that I discovered when they were re-runs/in syndication decades after they were done with first run.

Bitch who gives a damn if the show was before our time. If we saw it in reruns who gives a damn, the show touched people of all generations and ages, so get the stick out of your crack. Don't tell me you never watched a show that wasn't of your generation, you'll be lying if you say you never did. If it was an 80's show, it didn't stay in the 80's. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it bitch!

I live in the UK and have never heard Punky Brewster. I don't think it has ever aired in the UK, however, I've seen these episodes of Youtube and I must say I do love the show. I know its basically based on a girls life, but the only reason I watch it is because I am a big fan of George Gaynes who played Henry and how I love to think of Punky Brewster, is the Father-Daughter relationship.

I am a 25 year old Young Man and I don't really care what people think of me if Punky Brewster is more of a girls programme. I'd rather see it as a family comedy, escpecially for both boys and girls because it has a mixture of young and old.

reply

I was born in 1985 and remember watching this show in syndication. Actually, I even thought the show was still new when I watched it.

reply

It isn't sick at all! Today, my six year old son and my 32 year old husband and I all sat and watched bits of episodes on YouTube. My husband used to watch the show and also thought it was pretty cool to reminisce, and my son thought the show ruled. We watched the Say No To Drugs one and he was like "DRUGS SUCK! PUNKY RULES!"

So the thing is, Punky appeals to many of us. Screw that betch librarian! :-)

that librarian reminds m e of that lady at the barnes and noble books tore. i ordered a mnokees book, and when i went in a pi cked it u she laughed at me. i dont see whats so funny? they have been in sydication sence the 60s and h ad numbers reunion tours. and still perform sepratly today and the episodes areo n dvd. syndication is what eeps fans comming to these shows of all genrations.

I watched this when it first aired and I was 17 in 1984 when season 1 premiered. I'm now 42 and own every season on DVD. Buffy is also a favorite of mine, and I was 30 when that one premiered, which is a little past the age the show was aimed at.

I go online sometimes, but everyone's spelling is really bad. It's...depressing.

reply

No, there is nothing wrong with an adult male loving this show. You have a right to like whatever show you like.

People who say critical or mean things have limited imaginations and ideas. I would never pay attention to anyhing they have to say.

reply

I'm only 19 (and a girl:)) but I love both Punky and Buffy too!! They are the BEST of all times!

reply

I was born in 1984, the year Punky first aired on NBC. I grew up watching the show when I was a young boy in Germany. I'd rather watch Punky more than the crap they put on nowadays.

reply

i'm a 26 yr old female and i like punky even though it makes me cringe sometimes with its cheesiness. not too bad, tho.

and i love buffy the vampire slayer too! i must admit, i love buffy a whole lot lot lot lot more than punky.

maybe we're just attracted to shows about girls with odd names haha.

but i can see why you might not want to advertise it. but then again tell people to screw off.

reply

I'm and 18-year-old boy and yet it's one of my favorite shows. I don't think its sick, unless you have some sort of pedophile attraction towards the kids...

It's a fun program, cute, and innocent.

hey 32 here and love this show, it is cheesey and all but it was such an important part of my childhood. I bought all of the DVDs and if ever I have kids, they are growing up with this, not Hannah Montana.

No. Me, I heard all about it, but never saw one episode of the thing. You probably had a kind of "dad heart" inside of you or something.

reply

The show broadcast by ITV in the mid 80s partly because George Gaynes became well know through the Police Academy Films.

Its that man again!!

reply

Yeah same here, im 39 and male, who gives a damn what anyone thinks, it used to bother me alot when I was younger but as I've gotten older I really don't care anymore what anyone thinks because I've just come to realize that, its them who has the problem not yourself or myself, they can go bleep themselves for all I care, it was a very entertaining and funny show, it was very touching, that tought a lot of everyday lessons, I will always love it, it was a part of my childhood
