Recurring Characters You Wish Made More Appearances

The show had some great regulars around Cabot Cove, but for some reason they fizzled out over the last three seasons. Who are some people you'd like to see in a lot more episodes?

-I wish there had been more episodes featuring Jessica, Seth, and Amos. Those are some of my favorite of the series.
-More of Amos overall. I can't believe he only appeared in 19 episodes- it seemed like way more.
- More Eve Simpson. I really liked her dynamic with Jessica.
- More Micheal Hagarty. Len Cairou and Angela Lansbury were friends and coworkers before the show started, which is why he guest starred on the show in the first place. He didn't make enough appearances.

Many great recurring characters disappeared since Angela took over the show.

I, too, am surprised that Amos was such a short-lived character. I've recently watched the first four seasons, and kept expecting (hoping!) that Sheriff Metzger would get fed up with the small-town life he groused about and go back to New York, paving the way for Amos to return to his old job!

reply

More Harry McGraw! I loved Jerry Orbach.

I liked Grady's wife, i thought she was amusing. I would have liked to see more of her. Also that rather shady private eye played by wayne rogers. and I thought the scenes in the beauty parlour were amusing, i wouldn't have minded a few more of those.

Oh there were many but...the characters I would have loved to have seen more of were Grady (Michael Horton) and his wife Donna (Debbie Zipp.) I thought they played well off of one another...it probably helped that they are married in real life. I've always thought those two would have been a good spin off for the series too.

I also loved Len Cariou's "Michael Hagarty." I actually wish they had used that character for the book end episodes. I just wasn't as interested in Keith Michell's "Dennis Stanton" character. I found him to be a bit boring where Michael Hagarty was a bit more fun and adventurous.

I also loved all of the ladies in the beauty shop! They reminded me of all of the ladies I grew up with while living with my Grandmother.

Someone mentioned Amos Tupper's departure in a previous comment...He was written out of the show because Tom Bosley started the series "The Father Dowling Mysteries" with Tracy Nelson. He did not have the time to play Amos the 4 or 5 times needed per season so they created the character of "Mort Metzger" played by Ron Masak.

reply

I would've liked to see Adele just once. Metzger was always talking about her but we never got to see her. We even got to meet Metzger's brother but never his wife.

reply

If I had to pick one, it would have been Tom Bosley.

Nothing against Sheriff Metzger, but I liked Tom better.

I wish more of the episodes had been set in Cabot Cove ... those were the best ones.

And yes, I agree the doc and Michael Hagarty should have appeared more.

Tom Bosley left the show for his own series - "Father Dowling Mysteries" with Tracy Nelson as Sister Steve. Show lasted about three seasons.

Ellen McNulty: Oh, go on, I've stepped on better things.

I would have liked to have seen more of Grady & Donna, Seth, Amos Tupper and Capt. Ethan Cragg (he only appeared in a few episodes in season 1). Even though they were not recurring characters, I wish Donna's mother and father had appeared in other episodes. I liked them in 'Something Borrowed, Someone Blue'.

What happened to Victoria and her husband Howard? I have been watching the reruns and been waiting to see them return.
