Far fetched by today standards

There's no way the police or a sheriff would let a civilian near a crime scene, let alone involve her in the investigation, regardless of how close friends they were.

Jessica should have been a detective who did some writing on the side, or perhaps a retired detective turning her past experience into stories.

I think that one of the most wonderful things about fiction is that it's... fiction.

reply

well, it's not very likely that a writer would keep stumbling on a murder every week, nor that so many of the murderers or victims would be people personally known to her. i don't think anyone watches Murder She Wrote for the gritty realism.

reply

Are you saying that today's detective shows are NOT far-fetched?

reply

You must not have ever read or watched Miss Marple, or Agatha Christie in general. With cozy mysteries, you’’re not supposed to worry about that stuff, just roll with it.

SHE WORKED HER WAY ONTO THOSE CRIME SCENES...FOR A GOOD TIME CALL,SHE WROTE.

reply

Quaint little towns have murders every week and they are solved by cute little old ladies.

Cabot Cove

Population: 150
Homicides: 300
Murder Rate: 200%

If things really happened like they did on that show, Jessica’s home town would have a violent crime rate that would dwarf that of any major city!

reply

What makes you think it wasn't far-fetched back then?

Also, have you heard of a show called Castle???

reply

It watched it in the 1980s, and it was considered every bit as far-fetched then as it is today.
