Bring all 46 episodes of 1980's to DVD Please

Seems like just about every other version of Stacy Keach's Mike Hammer has been released on DVD, EXCEPT for the 1984-1987 series. They have the 1997-98 and 2003 ones released. And as of today, just 2 episodes (pilots I think) of the 1983 pilots. So that is a start. But that means there are still 46 1984-87 episodes NOT released. PLEASE release, these should have been released to DVD first, not last.

I just bought the Mike Hammer boxed set at Menards of all places. It's a set that boasts "All 26 EPisodes"

It stars Stacy KEach and it was only 7.99. Is this what you were looking for?

I did them all at SP speed off CBS so I'm just transferring my VHS masters to DVD. They look great by the way.

Hi eljefe320, I just saw your interesting post. I myself taped (in Beda format!) approx half the original 46 episodes, and even though I've tried to rescue them, most of them came out pretty crappy. I'm putting mine onto DVD, if only to preserve them from further decay. But I still enjoy them tremendously! It may be years before the network execs wise up and release these gems onto DVD. I did also get the other 2 movies taped though - Murder Takes All and the Return Of Mike Hammer, I thought these were awesome! If anyone finds out if we're able to release copies of even poor tapes of those old 46 episodes, please advise us! Like many others, I wonder why they never released these original 1983-1984 series first, and wonder if we're ever gonna get to see them all and appreciate these incredible original stories! - John

GOOD If They turn out OK how about selling me a copy

I think that's the revamped series from the 90s. Original Mike Hammer has 48 episodes. I hope they put them on DVD one day. It was one of my favourite programmes of the 80s and I have great memories of watching it with my brother whilst eating cheese on toast for dinner on sunday evenings.

It is not what fans of this series are looking for.

reply

No, that's the cheap series from 1997.

One way to get the ball rolling to get this classic show released onto DVD is to go straight to the source and let them know you want it. Go to

http://cbs.seenon.com/

Scroll to the bottom of the page and under "About Us" click on "product suggestions" and let them know you want to have the 80's Mike Hammer show on DVD. Consider all the crap that gets released on DVD. If they don't know there are people who want it, it won't get released.

I couldn't find "product suggestions" as an option.

I'm not sure how you could miss it.

When you go to cbs.seenon.com, scroll to the bottom of the page.

There is a grey box across the bottom called "Worry-Free Shopping".

There are five(5) columns labeled: Newsletter, Customer Services, My Account, ABOUT US, and Ordering.

Under ABOUT US, the fourth(4th) item down is "PRODUCT SUGGESTIONS".

Hope this helps.

I believe the problem is multi-faceted.
CBS does not own the rights to the show. It is not listed on any CBS website.

You may have noticed that in this day and age networks produce shows that end up being sold to competing networks. Also, networks buy old shows that they never broadcasted. That would explain Laverne and Shirley being part of the CBS family although it was an ABC show.

I suspect that the estate of Mickey Spillane owns the rights to the 1980's shows. "Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer" ran on CBS for 24 episodes from 1984-1985. The show went into hiatus after Stacy Keach's drug arrest and returned in a watered-down version called "The New Mike Hammer" in 1986. The show did poorly in the ratings and was cancelled.
They tried to revive the show again as "Mike Hammer, Private Eye" in 1997 but it had very low ratings and was cancelled after one season.

I doubt if Mickey Spillane had any involvement in TNMH or MHPI.
I would LOVE to get the 24 episodes from 1984-1985 but I don't know who owns them. It's not CBS.
