Was Philip Michael Thomas blackballed after "Miami Vice"?

I mean, he went from co-lead of THE show that defined the '80s to being a spokesperson for the Psychic Friends Network, where he continued to ride the Miami Vice wave as far as it would take him.

In his psychic ads, he would don the Miami Vice garb and say, “From Miami Vice to world advice!”. Eventually, he would be replaced by Miss Cleo.

And he didn't do much afterwards besides guest staring on Nash Bridges.

The last major thing he did was voice overs for GTA Vice City.

If I remember right, acting didn't really interest him and he tried to make a go of it making music.

Not like Don Johnson burned up the big or small screen after this. Mostly known for being attached to Melanie Griffith.

I don't agree about that one. Don Johnson did Nash Bridges some time after Miami Vice, which lasted a good six seasons and had 122 episodes.

reply

That's a legit point. Since I never thought much about DJ in the first place, I didn't really care about his career arc, and a six season show back in the day is something to consider.

Not to mention: Tin Cup, Django Unchained, Knives Out, Brawl in Cellblock 99 and probably three or four other big movies I’m forgetting. He’s done pretty well for himself in Hollywood supporting roles

I've often wondered why he disappeared. MV was huge. Not saying that I thought PMT was going to have a stellar movie career, but I thought we'd be seeing him on the small screen for quite some while.

Then when you think of the sitcom Bosom Buddies, consider the career it launched for Tom Hanks comparted to that of his costar Peter Scolari.

I mean yeah, Peter had steady work here and there, but compared to Hanks? Exactly.

reply

The majority of leads from big TV shows don't do much after the series ends.

reply

He might be most famous for coining the term EGOT.
