Daphne Child

I read the books ages ago and I am trying to remember. While Daphne died in child birth I am sure that the child lived and appeared in the books later. Did I remember correctly?

I don't know about the other three books in The Raj Quartet, but Daphne's daughter Parvati certainly appears at the end of The Jewel In The Crown. Paul Scott writes about her presence on the verandah of the MacGregor House, a sweet, shy and pretty young girl with a talent for singing who - as Lili Chatterjee writes to Lady Manners - "looks more like Hari" every time she sees her.

Funny you should mention her.

I was just watching the episode today with her as a little baby and there were close ups of her face.

My god that baby looked exactly like Hari! Was that just a coincidence, or like with "Homeland" and the Brody baby, did they look hard to find a baby that resembled Hari?

It was a stunning resemblance, especially little Parvati's eyes....

"The Jewel in the Crown" and "Homeland" - that's a very interesting comparison, and very apt. Despite the differences in time period, situation and setting, they both deal with a doomed love affair that not only casts a shadow over everything that follows, but also produces an unexpected offspring.

(Besides the fact they're both superbly acted, award-winning shows.)
