GREAT SHOW

My older bro and I used to wait to see this every week...terribly
hilarious show!!! The pranks JB pulled on the mom's boyfriend were
SOOOO funny! Any fan should remember the infamous "to-be-continued" 2
episodes starring the "Dregs of Humanity" where Eli and Matthew have to
scramble to hire a band for the school dance, and end up using model
skeletons dressed in glam rock attire, dangling on strings like
marionnette puppets...HILARIOUS.

I went to camp with Adam Sadowsky (Eli) in Carpenteria, Ca in 1986. I remember him saying that his favorite episode had skeletons in it ( I thought it was a Halloween episode). So, that must've been the one. He was a nice kid and so was his sister, Joanna.

I haven't thought about that for years; I remember laughing up a storm to that one!

Joanalamode this was actually on during the 90's on the USA Network back when te programming was a heck of a lot better than what it is now. USA Network had this in syndication like other shows from NBC like Double Trouble, My Two Dads, Just The 10 Of Us, and this show as well. I just thought that I would let you know about it.

Whatever happened to the 2nd part? Did it ever air before it was cancelled? What a way to have a show cancelled before a part 2 ever airs. Have they ever released the conclusion? Talk about leaving you hanging. I've been waiting since 1985 to find out what happens at the concert at the "Palladium"

From what I understand is that when the first part of the episode was aired and then the following week President Reagon had a speech to give. Well the show was canceled before the second part of the episode could be shown but USA Network in the 90's showed the second part of the show back in the day when the programming was a heck of a lot better than what it is now.

So we could have seen the second part of it on USA Network sometime in the 90's. I just thought that I would let you know about it.

Back in 1985 I taped all the episodes, up to the final one, the Alfred Hitchcock like one. The second part of Dregs was preempted by Reagan but they played it the next week.

It really sucked that so many parents or conservatives wrote the network to complain about Matt's antics, since Matt was a poor role model to young boys (like me). It was obvious that they bowed down to the conservatives and next thing you knew Matt was caught and was never the same wiley character again. I just watched all the episodes on Youtube and the chemistry was amazing between Matt and Norm. Like Hekyl and Jekyl. Then Matt was on probation and was good. There is a definite change in the tone after he got caught by his Mom. It wasn't as funny and it wasn't as smart.

Another thing that was noticeable was how much Jason Bateman grew from start to finish (in ONE season). His voice was also changing too.

Yeah, Jason Bateman was a riot as this con-man. I loved the Dregs of Humanity episode and how they use Norman's car to kill the band.

reply

Yeah this show was hilarious. For the longest time I thought Bateman was playing the same character he played on Silver Spoons. This show ans Peter Billingsley sitcom should not have been cancelled after one season.

What kind of beast couldn't get along with a precious little girl like this?

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who loved this show...... Very cool indeed. As JB or the boyfriend said in every episode, "You're gonna laugh."
