Frightful

Watching the scene where Shushila was about to be burned alive was very disturbing.

It was meant to be -- the book was even more disturbing and graphic. Let's face it, the whole concept of suttee was pretty grim.

I opened your posting because I thought you were saying the whole thing was frightful!Which it was,I reckon.Real Mills & Boon stuff. What soaking wet characters the principals are. And,and,ANY time urgency of action is required,Ashton seems to pause and ponder the horizon-or something! He comes across as a very unpleasant fellow with whom it is impossible to sympathise.Robert Hardy should have sent him on more hazardous manouveres in further away circumstances, once again,I reckon.;-)

I agree with danadams. It was disappointing, so ponderous and plodding. There was too much of Ash's introspection (and for me, the minor characters such as Juli's half-sister were more interesting anyway).
