Nice Surprise
I am an American who discovered this delightful series on PBS this year. As a long-time PBS viewer who watches every good Britcom that airs, this was a nice surprise. I have watched PBS for many, many years, and no PBS station in the areas I have lived has aired this series until now. Why does it get ignored? When I saw it was co-written by Bob Larbey, a favorite writer of mine, and starred Richard Briers, a splendid actor I've seen in many shows, I had to watch. The series is very good, and I enjoyed it more and more as it went along.
The only problem was our PBS station never aired two Christmas specials, and one was the wrap-up of the series. I ended up ordering the box set from the UK and received it last week (thank goodness for multi-regional players.) Finally, I got to see the missing episodes and have also enjoyed listening to the commentaries on some episodes. A real camaraderie among the three main actors came across in the commentaries making me like them even more. The only thing I don't like about the box set is the way the discs are placed in the holders. They are a bear to get out!
Anyway, just wondering if many Americans have seen this series. It really is very good with splendid writing and great acting all around. A big thanks to Daytona's PBS for airing this!
