location/episode?

I am a great fan of the show, and watch all the repeats regularly.I have watched in vain to find the episode (I think it might be the LAST one)where Martin and Ann visit a restaurant which was filmed just around the corner from our house, namely Manleys in Storrington,Sussex. I remember the film unit were camped onsite for several days but when it was aired the scenes inside were very brief.
Does anyone remember which episode it was? Why hasnt it been repeated as often as the rest?

I don't remember a restaurant. But Amazon are offering the full series (including the Christmas specials) for just £12.93. That sounds like a bargain.

Most of it was filmed in Billingshurst, West Sussex. Storrington isn't very far from there.

Yea,I've driven by the house in Billingshurst recently, needs a coat of paint now !! As I said I live in Storrington just around the corner from where they filmed the restaurant scene, and we are sure it was in the LAST episode where Martin finds out he's going to be a Dad and they move away.

I finally found the episode on You Tube. Someone has a channel called everdecreasingcircles and most of the shows are on there. The one I was looking for is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqdT_2MDqFg
The clip in the restuarant is at 6:20 and runs to 8:00,so 1min 40 sec, that tok several days of filming on location at Manleys, which by the way is presently having a major re-development.

Well done, I'll enjoy revisiting the series. It really was one of those series that was very close to perfection.

I've submitted Manleys as a location used in that episode.

There's also a rare shot of the exterior of their local pub in that episode (3/8). Do you know where that is?

Steve

reply

I will have a look. I do know one of the episodes featuring a village fete/cricket scene was done in West Chiltington Village Hall field, and the cricket match show where Paul gets over 100 runs was done at Wisborough Green

cant find 3/8 Seems to only go to 3/6

I meant the way they've divided each episode into multiple parts on YouTube.
It's part 3 of 8 of episode 8 of series 4 (or episode 1 of series 5), the 1989 Christmas special.

Now thats really got me going !!! At first I thought it might be The Crown Inn at Cootham near Storrington but will have to go passed it and check it out.

They visit the pub in many of the other episodes but that'll all be done in the studio. I think that's the only time we see the exterior of the pub.

Here's another one for you though, what about the library that Martin takes his books back to at the end of episode "Jumping to Conclusions", where he thinks Ann is having an affair with Paul and bows to the inevitability of it.

Steve

Hey, I like this game !! One other I remember is Pauls studio is filmed outside the parade of shops by Billingshurst Station
John

Yes, that one's already listed in the list of locations for the series.

But most episodes had some exterior filming. Not only in The Close.

There's the park in episode "Local Hero" (3.4)
Or the shopping centre in "The Campaign" (3.5)
Or the cottage in "Stuck in a Loft" (4.3)

Or what about the outside of Mole Valley Valves? We see that in a few episodes

Steve

reply

No idea of the park or the cottage. I did think the shopping centre was Guildourne Centre Worthing, but my Wife thinks County Mall Crawley

We'd better listen to "She who must be obeyed"

The house used in the series was owned by a lecturer at Crawley College who taught me a subject related to Electronics, I can't remember his name though. He would tell us stories regarding the filming of the series and how it disrupted the local residents.

There were 2 pubs used during the series a change of landlord forced the change if my memory serves me right one of them was in the High Street in Billingshurst and was easily recognized, it is set well back from the road but all interior filming was a set as was the house.
