ACP repeats are currently screening on Ch7 after midnight, here in Melbourne, and the episode detailing Donna's demise played a week or two back -
Donna (who has always had a "thing" for Ben) decided to cheer Ben up by organising him a party honouring his favourite composer, Mozart's, birthday (not Ben's birthday as someone else posted). Whilst everyone is getting ready, she rushes off to get a cake. Whilst driving back to the party (and yes, not wearing a seatbelt, as someone else pointed out!), she is involved in a car crash. There was a drunk driver (one of the townspeople, I can't recall his name at the moment) who caused it all (his wife is making him cover it all up at the moment). There was also a car containing Dan Richards and his young daughter Penny. Donna died instantly from injuries. The drunk driver escaped (and will face justice soon, I hope!), Dan Richards died from injuries soon after the crash. Penny Richards was injured but survived.
I'll miss Donna. She was somewhat annoying and I did dislike the character a bit, but she often added enthusiasm and other wierd dimensions to the show...

I just watched these episodes on youtube. The accident happened as Terrence and Alex were coming out of the surgery. The drunk driver that caused the accident went home to his wife and told her about the accident. He also told her that he thought nobody else saw it, as he didn't hang around to see the outcome. There were containers of a flammable chemical that fell off a truck (I can't remember if they were on Dan Richard's truck or the drunk drivers) but everyone in the area had to be evacuated. Jo, Shirley, Esme and a few others were waiting for Donna to come home with the cake but then Frank rang them to tell them about the accident. They all had to stay in the house, due to the chemical containers letting off fumes.
If only Donna had put her seatbelt on, she might have survived......I guess that actress wanted to leave the show or maybe her character got written out of the script. I remember I loved Donna when I watched ACP as a kid because she was a bit eccentric but also a likeable character that grew on people.

She was somewhat scatty like Molly in the early episodes of ACP but her character showed a sensitive side in the episodes titled 'Let the sunshine in' when she won over the feral Bethany.
