If you've enjoyed this can I recommend Brenda Blethyn's next comedy written especially for her by the same writers.
THE LABOURS OF ERICA - she plays single mother approaching 40 realizing that she has done nothing with her life. She finds a diary she wrote as a teen ,12 things to do before 40 , and she's done none of them ,and proceeds to fulfill those teenage wishes, including stealing a policeman 's helmet, cliff diving, and appearing on tv.
Brenda also starred in OUTSIDE EDGE ,a comedy about Cricket folk. This I can thoroughly recommend. She plays Miriam a wife of the Captain of a cricket team. He's a buffoon dealing with friction and disasters, and slowly realises she is his rock. Very funny show , also with Timothy Spall , Josie Lawrence, and Michael Jayston.
Finally away from Brenda Blethyn I can recommend IS IT LEGAL with Imelda Staunton, a real comic master class from Staunton as a put upon solicitor wit her bumbling team.

The Labours of Erica (1989)
Outside Edge (1994)
Is It Legal? (1995)

It is quite good if you're into the absurdist sort of comedy. Also check out Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em or The Worst Week Of My Life for a similar type of laugh.

The Chance character tended to wear a bit thin into the later series though. His ongoing resistance (then seeming indifference) to the adorable and cuddly librarian in love with him was becoming just too silly near the end. Even after they are sharing a flat as a couple, he seemed to treat her almost like some visiting relative he only slightly cared about.

Thankfully, as a typical Britcom, there were not that many episodes for it to ever become a serious sticking point.

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.
