Music and Credits

Just the opening credits and the music just get in the Christmas mood in a few seconds.

I could be 11 again sitting in front of the TV on it's first showing.

It is dated and the children are impossibly posh - but somehow the whole thing works and you end up bang in the Xmas mood after the 3 hours.

A must.

I agree completely! The book's one of my all time favorites--read it every Christmas--just finished for this year and am now watching my old VHS copy.
The movie is low budget, but very sincere--a true staple for my holidays. The First Noel in the opening sequence is just beautiful. Great to know there are other people out there who still remember this wonderful Christmas sentiment.

Hi

One of the best programmes I remember as a child at Xmas! The track used for the music was also used in a radio production in the 50's (I think), my Nan remembers. I have a copy of the tune on CD; if you are after it, it is on a CD by Hely Hutchinson and it's amidst one of the tracks on it.

I found the theme music on an M+S cd of all things.
It's by the Barry Rose orchestra.
I have it on my ipod and I still get a dopey smile on my face and goosebumps when I hear it.

I loved the theme music as a child. This tune *IS* Christmas for me. I've finally managed to track it down on iTunes of all places:

Victor Hely-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony

The actual track you want is part 3, "Andante Quasi Lento E Cantabile".
