Kay's family
Does anyone know how Kay came to be in the care of Caroline Louisiana? Caroline doesn't appear to be his mother. What's his background? Is Kay adopted?

I have read the first of John Masefield's books about Kay 'The Midnight Folk' in which the evil Sylvia Daisy Pouncer is governess to Kay. I am sure in this book it alludes to the fact that Kay's parents are deceased. not sure if it goes into who Caroline Louisa is in terms of how she came to be his guardian though.
shareI always got the impression that Caroline Louisa was an older cousin or a young aunt. Kay certainly seemed to have a rapport with her that doesn't suggest a generation gap.
