Will be interesting to see what they do with it. I'll definitely give it a watch but if they 'Hollywoodise' it too much I think I'll cry!

good news and good choice for the director. Could see Jeremy Northam in the role of Abner Brown. Watch him in Enigma. He has a good mixture of charisma and sinister.

I like Jeremy Northam's acting, but I can't see him as Abner Brown - he plays 'quiet evil'. I think I'd want a 'bigger' performance from someone a bit weightier and texturally rich - more Michael Gambon.

JN too handsome as well - someone more grizzled and lugubrious, methinks ;o)

What about Toby Stephens for Abner which of course would be interesting as his dad Robert was the iconic Abner. I would hope they wouldn't do it a disservice by badly casting it

reply

Sadly, we won't get a chance to agree, nor disagree with the casting...

All has been on hold for some time, now.

Thanks for the link. I'm quite sad that this is on hold but I do like what Mr Newell says about what Hollywood producers think the film should be. Or rather I agree with him that it shouldn't be what they think.
I do hope it gets made eventually

Oh, yes, I absolutely agree.

Yes, I agree...

Glad he's a man of principle.

I like cgi done well, but also think it's important to realise that the story's strong enough on it's own, without loads of tricksy interference.

I wonder what Execs think they're trying to make up for... A lack of what?!
