Marella vs. Caitlin

I was watching the "Airwolf" marathon today on Sci-Fi, and I must say, Deborah Pratt as Marella was F-I-N-E. I saw her in "Moffett's Ghost" and throughout the series, whenever she was in an episode, Caitlin (Jean Bruce Scott) was not. I noticed that in the imdb credits, Marella was mostly confined to the earlier episodes, while Cailtin was in the latter ones. Did they basically have the same job, only played by different characters? Marella, in my opinion was more of the "chick with brains" but Caitlin was more of an Airwolf pilot "helper". Enough of me going on and on...but what eactly were their jobs???

reply

Who is Marella?? Is that the woman who works with Arch Angel? If that's who I think it is, then she works for the Firm, while Caitlin works for Dom at Santini air and helps out with missions and flies airwolf when need be

reply

Marella was in the pilot episode, she's Archangel's right hand woman. Archangel sho did like his women! There was another girl who worked for the firm just under Marella's position in the pilot that Moffat stakes out in the Lybian desert to die that on the hotness scale kicked her ass! Caitlan comes in later in the series and was originally a police helicopter pilot that helps Stringfellow out, and later comes to work at Santinni air because she knows the two guys fly Airwolf, and that 'Mach-1+ chopper that can kick ass' gets her hot. I even think they planned to have her become a love interest for String but later shelved the idea after they found out that hinting at it made for better Tv. But come on, Caitlan was HOT too! Not your dark sexy type like Marella, but more as the girl next door type.

reply

Agreed, bobby_blade666...Caitlin was damned hot.....but then again, I'm biased about redheads - I'm married to one!

Oh, and just to be completely accurate, the line was:

"In other words, Senator, Airwolf is a Mach-1 plus chopper, that can kick butt!"

reply

I always had a huge crush on Caitlin who was played by Jean Scott! She was hot!

reply

In terms of character, I'd go for Caitlin. Marella was a strong woman, but worked for a shady govt. agency. Caitlin was more of a woman u cud trust.

reply

I agree with you and trust me the government at times can be shady trust me on that because I was in the military and I have seen what the military can do to people and it was not anything too pleasant either. I thought Caitlin was a sweet girl that I would have loved to have seen or gotten to know her bad girl side you know but in a good way though and she was great for the show too!

reply

Poor Caitlin she was always in love with Hawke and he didn´t care or didn´t want to show his feelings to her, I always like the episodes were Hawke has to rescue her or she has to rescue Hawke.

reply

Well I guess the writers did not want to see anything happen serious with Hawke and Caitlin you know. You have to understand why because it would sort of screw things up in the show. That is what usually happens with two people at work.

reply

gustavlem,

Well, just look at the episode "Horn of Plenty," when Caitlin says, "And the daughter! Remember, she's mine!" Obviously, because she knew that the daughter was interested in Hawke. Or, earlier in the episode when she says, "I care about him too, Dom. More than you know!" Or, the look on Caitlin's face at the end of the episode "Crossover," when one of the Czech scientists (who just so happens to be female) walks out arm-in-arm with Hawke - Caitlin's got this look on her face like, "Get your hands off him! He's mine! "

There were many occurrences throughout Jean Bruce Scott's two seasons on the show that displayed Caitlin having feelings for Hawke - and vice-versa, but I think Hawke was afraid to act on them, because, as Archangel told Gabrielle in the pilot episode, "Stringfellow believes that everyone he loves, or might love, will die." And, I think he cared too much about Caitlin to let that happen.

Just my $.02 worth.

P.S. - In case you're wondering, I have no life, which is how I know Airwolf so damned well!! :)

I just finished reading fanfictions by Rachel500. You can read her stories on her site.
Rachel500
She has written 39 stories so far, bridging season 3 to season 4. Very well
written I might add...And Hawke and Caitlin finally get together. It's well worth the time to read. And puts some finishing touches on the whole Airwolf Stories. Let me know what you think of them.

Are there any up to date pictures of JBS?

reply

I went to the web and looked her up under Jean Bruce Scott Actress
What I came up with was MySpace Jean Bruce Scott. It shows a nice
pic of her. She is showing up as 52 years old with her history of
what she has been up to..Hope you can find it.

Those stories are great!!! Thanks for pointing those out - they really do give some great closure to Airwolf - and it's nice to see Hawke and Caitlin finally together (like they should be!!) :)

Well, Deborah Pratt's (Marella) other jobs at the time included being the writer of one Airwolf episode and being the wife of series creator/ Executive Producer Donald Bellisario... 8-)

I always kinda pictured Marella as being Deobrah's "Happy Days" character "Kat Mandu" as a grown-up!

I always liked Marella.

I always loved Cait.

reply

Tom444,

You and me both! Caitlin was just so darned pretty...("cute" just doesn't do her justice) -- and I've always liked redheads (which is probably why I married one....)

Thing is... Caitlin is a bit of a nice girl. Marella is a REAL Woman and REAL Women kick butt in every way that matters.

Marella was first and foremost an agent. She was hard-ass, highly trained, highly intelligent and highly dangerous. If Archangel ever let her off the leash, she'd rival Rambo... but look a whole lot prettier. She also really knew how to make 80s fashion look good, but I don't think that was part of the official character brief! :-D

That's one of the things I loved about Archangel - He chose his people based on their capabilities. The fact that they were usually beautiful women was just an added bonus and bucking such a trend probably appealled to his mischevious nature. Like Agent Booth's belt buckle and socks in Bones, this was Archangel's way of being a bit of a rebel... well, that and letting a civilian walk (fly) off with a CIA project valued at a billion dollars, that is!

Gabrielle was lovely.
Caitlin is a little girl... cute, I grant you, but an absolute pretender when compared to Marella!

Caitlin kicked butt in at least two episodes that I can think of -- she kicked Hawke's butt in "Horn of Plenty (before injecting him with the drugs to counteract the brainwashing), and in the S2 episode "Natural Born," she kicked butt, too.

Now, I'll agree with you about Marella -- she was an agent, pure and simple...but she did make 80s fashion look good. Like I said in a previous post, I've got a pro-redhead bias (which is why I liked Cait so much.) Don't get me wrong -- I like Marella also, but I have a hard time visualizing Cait as a "little girl." Just my opinion. :)

Deborah is married to the creator and producer of Airwolf Donald P. Bellisario. They have two children. They've been married for some 20+years. Deborah's stepson Michael was on "JAG". Now who is better....Marella or Caitlin? Its a draw for me. After doing Airwolf...Jean Bruce Scott went to work on "Magnum PI"..her character
was a naval officer. Who did lots of favours for Tom Magnum.
