A long time ago on ebay...

There was a guy who was selling VHS copies of this entire show that he had taped off of HBO from its initial airings. I got into a bidding war with the woman who played Bubba's wife Earlene (Who sadly died a few years later) Now in hindsight I wish that I would have bid higher. I would have made the original copies of this show available for free. Instead we are stuck with the crappy syndicated versions and those original VHS versions are gone (most likely) forever. Here's hoping that they turn up eventually.

How much was the bid

Okay, this was back in 2000 so VHS was on its way out. So, it wasn't actually that much. It was around $125-150. I stopped bidding when I found out that a member of the cast was bidding on the tapes.I felt that she deserved them more than I did. I didn't think she would die a few years later. Who knows what happened to those tapes. Like I said before, we're stuck with the crappy syndicated versions now.

Yeah the crappy syndicated version sucks

It's nice to know that there are fans of this show lurking on here.

I remember when the series ended back in 1991 the following summer HBO aired two episodes every night. I remember that some nights I would stay up until 3 AM waiting for the episodes to air. So, when I got the boxed set (as awful as it is) I have made it a ritual to watch a season or two every summer.

An interesting side note is that my father went to school with Michael Toland who played Billy Cooper on the show. My dad said he was a great guy and was funny as hell.

The actress who played Earlene is actually still alive.
