RIP Capt Geering

Sam Kelly has died aged 70. One of the best (German) characters from the first few series of the show.

Back in 1999, I wrote a review for this show about how much I missed Sam Kelly and the Hans Geering character. The show just wasn't the same without him and when my local PBS station brings the show back, I stop watching after he leaves and will only catch the episode where he comes back for a guest appearance.

Sad news. I have fond memories of his scenes with Colonel von Strohm.

(salutes the Captain) KLOP!

Agree. He and Colonel Strohm was a great team. Missed Gruber after he deflected from prison camp

reply

Agree, one of my favorites too. Sam has done turns in Midsomer and New Tricks. Did remind me of "Father Mulcahy" from Mash with his gentle humor. BTW "working" through the DVD boxset, recently viewed the later episode(s) with the "Swede" doing a funny accent. They made fun of all nationalities - well many dissed Sweden for remaining neutral. Still find the show fresh and witty. Can anyone answer my question about the expression "KV" - see "Tunnel" post below?

Top actor

Loved him Porridge and Allo allo and I loved him in what I thought was funny but very short lived comedy On the Up with Dennis Waterman

He was a great character. i never liked it as much after he left.

reply

Agree. He was the perfect sidekick to the Colenel with his laid-back attitude.
