Does anyone know the meaning of the male lead's nickname: "Pin-Pon"?
And is Eliane's teacher's name as unusual in France as it would be in America: "Mademoiselle Dieu"? ("Miss God")
Eliane calls her teacher by her first name, "Calamité" ("Calamity"), another puzzling choice of names. Trés bizarre!
"Pin Pon" is the sound of an ambulance.
"Dieu" is a not too uncommon surname in French speaking parts of the world, sometimes spelled as "Dieux".
"Calamité" is indeed rather weird, but hey sometimes children are given a name referring to the circumstances they encountered when born. ;-)
