"My brother beat me. My sister beat my brother. My father beat my sister, my brother, and me. My mother beat my father, my sister, my brother, and me. The neighbors beat our family. The family down the street beat the neighbors and our family."

"His parents find fault with him for everything. When he is bullied by anti-Semites, his parents side with the anti-Semites."

"His father, Morris Zelig, was a Jewish actor. His performance as Puck, in the orthodox version of 'Midsummer Night's Dream,' was coolly received."

"It just goes to show you what you can do when you're a total psychotic."

The whole radio interview with Eudora's mother.

"Cole Porter was fascinated by him. He wrote a song: You're the Top, You 're Leonard Zelig. But he couldn't find anything to rhyme with Zelig."

Any of the references to Moby Dick. Why was this book the pinnacle of intellectualism? It got funnier with each new line...

"On his deathbed, Morris Zelig tells his son that life is a meaningless nightmare of suffering, and the only advice he gives him is to save string."

I cannot contribute but I have to say that every one of the "best lines" listed in this thread had me laughing, but the one about "save string" was the best. Now I know I HAVE to buy this movie and not wait to see it on cable again. The older I get the more I appreciate Woody Allen. Thank you to all of you posting on IMDB.

Funny lines: His obsession under hypnosis with the poor quality of his doctor's pancakes.

Best visual: His "treatment" with 1920s "modern" techniques where his knee joints are reversed. This is the period when gross treatments such as lobotomies were accepted medical practices.

reply

"I teach a class on masturbation and if I'm late they'll start without me"

reply

Best line: (under hypnosis) Your jokes are terrible and your stories don't go anywhere.

Best visual: The narrator says that it drove him up the wall and you see him walking on the wall.

There are so many good lines in Zelig, but my favorite was "Clara Bow invites him for a private weekend. And tells him to bring all his personalities."

My deepest apology goes to the Trochman family in Detroit. I...I never delivered a baby before in my life, and I... I just thought that ice tongs was the way to do it.

The Ku Klux Klan, who saw Zelig as a Jew, that could turn himself into a Negro and an Indian, saw him as a triple threat.

That's definitely the best! This movie has so many awesome lines, though.

I love the line about Zelig disagreeing with Freud, who thinks penis envy should be limited to females. Genius.
