Tragically underappreciated

This movie seems to be among the least well known of Alllen's movies, and yet once or twice a year I will find it referenced in print or or commentary where someone will make mention of a Zelig moment or some such thing. The unfortunate contrast is that the movie is barely known and yet features an immediately iconic character that whomever has seen the film can never forget and will instantly be able to identify cultural analogies. It also makes me wonder how many times I heard references made to it before I saw it that went right over my head.
