Are you kidding me?

because this movie does suck a lot and there's no escaping it

TRUST ME, BLOATED JUNK LIKE TOMB RAIDER, CATWOMAN, VAN HELSING, BATTLEFIELD EARTH AND THE ADVENTURES OF PLUTO NASH AND MILLION OF OTHER MOVIES LIKE THESE ONES ARE FAR DUMBER THAN THE CLASSIC "YENTL" IS.

Yentl is my favorite movie. The music is the best collaboration of Michel Legrand and the Bergmans sung beautifully by Barbara Streisand. I am neither Christian nor Jewish nor a woman but I love this movie. I've never seen Titanic but now I'm curious to know if it could possibly be better than Yentl.

Barbra Streisand knew she was too old for the part of Yentl; she had wanted to do the film at least 10 years before but could not get the backing or cooperation from any film studios when she was younger.

Never is Yentl's age reveal in the movie; noone minded Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Emilio Estevez playing teens in "The Breakfast Club" when they were in their mid 20's, so why the fuss? Noone minded Winona Ryder playing a 13 year old in 1989 in "Great Balls of Fire" either, or Matthew Broderick in both "Wargames" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", ditto Ralph Macchio in all "Karate Kid" films.

YENTL BELONGED TO BARBRA AND THERE IS NOONE ELSE THAT COULD HAVE PLAYED HERE WITH SUCH VITALITY AND CONVICTION.

SO BACK THE CRAP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all she certainly doesn't look 40... so who cares?
It's a movie, not real life...once you accept the idea that everyone believes she's a guy, just sit back and enjoy the show instead of being so difficult.
By the way...have you ever seen East of Eden with James Dean? In that one they are supposed to be 17 years old. James Dean's character Cal was in love with his brother's girlfreind Abra, played by Julie Harris. Miss Harris was around 36 years old when she played the part, but no-one would have guessed. Steve McQueen's first major success was in The Blob. He played a seventeen year old but was 28. And so it goes. That's HOllywood. No big deal...

What amazes me is that everyone in the film was so blind to the fact that she was a woman. Short hair and a tied down chest does not a convincing man make.
I just found the film a bit dreary, but hey I was workin so it wasn't all bad.
