yeah...i think it's a pretty good movie, even though it's been dissed, i know. I think if you're a fan of the people in it, then you'll certainly enjoy it. I love Marty Feldman, and he's pretty funny in it. He's got a funny pirate voice and he's Peter Boyle's little lackie...and Peter Boyle's pretty funny in it too. And all the rest of the Brits with their great humor are hillarious. So, I think it's worth checking out.
And I agree, I hate when people don't want to look at older stuff. I personally always find myself liking older stuff rather than stuff from now adays. lol

Thank you Thank you Thank you for telling me about the upcoming release of this classic comedy on DVD.
Many will be too ignorant to give this film a go, a lot of my friends are young (in 20s) and don't like "old stuff". used to try hard to get them to watch a lot of classic comedy, but I have finally decided that since I give ALL films a go, I am the lucky one and they are the ones who will miss out for being stubborn.

from what i have heard it is just the film with no extras, one of the boot legs being sold on ebay does have an extra disc of behind the scenes material, likely taken from HBO or someplace like that and then burned to dvd-r
share...yeah, that's why i'm probably going to stick with the "bootleg" one I have hahaha. that's kinda stupid, that they've gone through the trouble to release it on DVD, but put NO extra features on there. There's that great "Group Madness" documentary on the movie that they should put with it. It's really good, as I have it on my "bootleg" version lol

I love this movie's refined humor.
I've been checking on this for about 8 years. 4 days ago I saw that it was coming out and cheered!! Pre-ordered, and my 5 VHS copies can now be retired.
I literally know about 90% of the dialogue. This is probably my most watched movie.
Oh, this is a bit below Monty Python flicks as a rule. I don't know why I love it so much!
Anyway, first we got The Pirate Movie and Ice Pirates, plus Six Pack and now this!! Hooray, hooray for silly 80s comedies! Keep em coming.
It took me forever to find my VHS copy. When is Ice Pirates coming out?
shareThe only thing wrong with the dvd release is they don't give madeline kahn any billing on the cover art just her photo with the rest of the cast. She is the main reason this movie works at all. It has it moments but far from anyones best material.

The transfer is quite good! Otherwise this is as barebones as you can get. Not even a menu graphic.
Looks like it's going to be without the documentary... and no 5.1 either.

I can live without the documentaries, though I am really disappointed that they aren't included. What really torques me off is that they couldn't even be bothered to slap together a menu display better than the default burner menu. It's almost as if MGM said "Oh fine, if it will shut the fans up, slap something together and get it out the door."
Then again, maybe this is just an attempt to get us early buyers before they release the "Special Ulitimate Collectors Edition w/ Flair" in a few years. And we'll all buy it again. :P
