This is the only horror I still can't bear to watch

I grew up on horror films, from the classic 80s body-horror like From Beyond, The Thing, Society and The Fly I&II, to Cannibal Holocaust, Hellraiser, and more recently, The Human Centipede II.

However, Xtro is the only one I had to stop watching the first time I saw it.

The first 20 minutes, especially that critter crawling around the woods, and then the harrowing scenes in the cottage (not just the birth scene but just the whole ambience of that part when you know the creature is hiding in the house) are difficult to watch but the birth did it for me, and I had to stop watching.

I then came across a VHS copy of this film by chance a few years later on offer, so I thought, why not, let's give it another go. Even then, when I knew 'that part' was coming up, I started getting tense, sweaty and bottled out of watching it.

Only one other film had that effect on me on first viewing- From Beyond- but I've since been able to sit through that (via YouTube, the full movie is on there) no probs, but there's just something about Xtro that still freaks me out. Scariest horror ever made in my opinion, even the cover art is freaky with that picture of the Sam-creature in the sky.

I know what you mean. This movie still terrifies me. I have it on dvd but have a hard time watching it. I really like the movie but it creeps me out. I can honestly say that this movie truly disturbs my soul.

10 years old was definitely too young, although I'd seen Alien and The Thing by then.

It is pretty gross.

Do you turn comedy's off for being too funny?
