this movie is without doubt the greatest kung fu movie, no, the greatest movie ever made, in any genre.

Hey man,

I agree with you whole-heartedly. While I'm sure you'll have other favorites in various genres, "The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter" is as powerful watching it the 36th time as it was the 1st.

I wrote the review the mini-review on IMDB "8 Reasons to Watch 'The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter' the greatest of all kung-fu movies."

I am currently using the movie as my 'great film example' to share in a filmmakers workshop.

great to know somebody else likes the movie as much as me!

i would call myself a pretty big movie fan, havng seen many many many movies from all over the world spread out across all genres, from chinese arthouse to grindhouse expoitation flicks, and there are very very very movis i would consider giving a mark of ten, - pole fighter being one of those very few.

but, then again, im pretty biased due to the fact that hong kong martial arts is my favourite genre.

This was the best the shaw brothers ever released. And still is. This film is that well known and needs exposure. It would be nice if Hong Kong Legends went to work on it they are the best at remastering these old films. I still have my old VHS copy, as worn as it is.

I must agree. I just saw this film for the first time, and I can honestly say it's the best martial arts movie I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot.

The only film I think surpasses The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter is The Kid With The Golden Arms.

gorlden arm could not touch this movie. better story better action better acting. al looks really crazy as the 5th yang.

While I cannot consider 8 diagram pole fighter to be the greatest movie ever made it is a fantastic film. I did however find Gordon Liu's character in 36th Chamber a lot better developed. The fight scenes in 8 Diagram particularly the fight with the abbot at Wu Tai mountain monastery is brilliant.

I'm just (belatedly) getting into all the old school kung fu movies. They are all by and large great films but this one, it's in a league of it's own. Amazing.

I have to agree. I keep hearing that 36 Chambers is the best kung movie ever made. I'm sorry, but 8 diagram pole fighter is perhaps, the best kung fu movie of its time. simply awesome.
