This movie is just a boring Lifetime channel version of Ransom

Let's be honest.

I'll admit that it's a bit corny, and is somewhat similar to Lifetime movies. But it doesn't really compare to Ransom. There's no ransom demand, violence or revenge in this movie at all.

Really? Wow.

It surprises me that you found it boring. I've been enthralled with this movie more than a half a dozen times. Great cast. Great acting. If you have children this movie really gets you.

Lets remember though that this movie was made in 1983, years before lifetime was born. Before The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children was formed. This movie was born out of the ever growing protection of children movement fueled by Etan Patz and then Adam Walsh's abductions. Before that missing children wasn't the big deal it is today. Amber alerts, didn't exist. Th way child abduction was dealt with back then is compareable to the stone age. What people don't realize is how significant a man John Walsh was. A lot of the things today were created as a result of his advocacy. The man is a giant. This movie was a reflecxtion of the times back then, sappy yes, BUT possible, yes as well.

No...I think the fact that there is no ridiculous million-dollar ransom, fast camera work, car chases, etc. is what makes this movie so realistic and, therefore, far more touching. Hundreds, thousands of children go missing every day, and parents never hear or see from them ever again...no leads, no ransoms, no tipsters, nothing.

This was a much better movie than any Lifetime pulp fiction.

reply

Agreed. Judd Hirsch really took his over acting to a new level here.

be honest- Without a Trace came first before Ransom, and originally not aired on Lifetime, as this movie was released before Lifetime launched. The movie is hardly boring, and the acting of Kate Nelligan and Judd Hirsch is superb.

I believe this was a theatrical release, and came out BEFORE Ransom.
