One of my favorite punk rock movies...

This is one of my favorite movies -- I just finished watching it 5 minutes ago. I love that it has three of my favorite bands in it, and I'm only 16 (Most of my other friends like, well, "friendlier" punk rock if you know what I mean -- but nobody ger started on that! >_<).

i was thinking the same thing. i saw this movie when i was 12 or 13 (I have a friend who's even crazier about punk than I am, mostly oi, lars frederickson, vandals, misfits), and it basically let me in on what the punk scene SHOULD be like nowadays. Whenever I go to a punk show now, it's like a cross between emo and punk, and it gets irritating seeing people too chicken to start pits (sometimes they do, but rarely, hardcore shows have them). If I had to recommend one movie to those little MTV twits that think they're punk cause they listen to blink 182 and good charlotte and live in an upper-middle class neighborhood, this (and definitely Spheeris' The Decline of Western Civilization part 1) would be it.

The term punk gets thrown around so much these days it pisses me off. They call Greenday Pop/punk whatever that *beep* is, and it's like if you have spiked or dyed hair, then your bands punk. We need more real punk bands like Narcoleptic Youth, Angelic Upstarts, Fear, and G.G. Allin

i hate when people say real punk bands and go on to list bands that arent the ramones, new york dolls, johnny thunders, or any of the bands that you can actually call punk, im not saying that g.g. allin isnt punk in attitude but in music, the actaul bands that defined the genre are more punk than those who followed

reply

Well the reason I didn't list those bands is because I don't like them. Ya they did start the whole punk thing, but I'm not going to list bands I don't like to listen to.

If you don't like the Ramones, there is something wrong with you.

What??? "How did hollywood find out about our scene?". What did you think that the punk scene was only known to a few select few? We've just seen more of the fake punk movies/scenes around. Still, it's not like you have to speak a secret password to find out about it.

You can't have a proper discussion about punk movies without mentioning Repo Man. I guess some of the elitists out there claim it only WANTED to be punk, but Repo Man has the slight edge in the soundtrack department. That Circle Jerks cameo cracks me up every time.

It pisses me off too. People use the word "punk" way, way too much. I dare I emo *beep* to call bands like My Chemical Romance, Hawthore Hieghts, and so on real "hardcore" music. After all, it comes down to the fact that Emo is all the rich jackass kids who cry about there parents splitng up, and then saying that they are cutters and that they are "hardcore". As seen in this movie, the T.R. is not about drugs, sex, and such...but more about the strong relationship that these misfits had. I can only say that even though I wasn't alive in the 70's and 80's to listen to the music, I still love it, I am 16 at the moment.

All my friends will call me a poser just because I actually listen to harcore punk/ska, and don't listen to that emo *beep* When the fact of the matter is, THEY are the douchebags for listening to Emo/Screamo. Just my two-cents.

I am a 29 year old. This movie was a little before my time but it reminded of me and my youth-we were not as "punk"-but sh*t was the same. When dope was introduced it warped the whole scene. This movie was a great 80's "commentary".

safetyswami....you and I may be the only two people in the history of the world to have seen repo man....lmao. Good fun.

Repo Man was rad. I saw it back in 1986 with my friend Art....We were little 7th grade bastards who used to drink flip-top cans of Budwieser and break sh*t down in the cement drain ditches....fun times indeed.....jamming out to The Replacements,Christian Death,.45 Grave,Burning Image,Crass and sh*t like that......it was definitely a pinacle moment in my life.....nothing much has changed except I'm 20 something years older now....go out and have fun while you can.....round up some friends, jack a crackbox from the thrift store that still plays tapes, get some beer and go build a fire somewhere....take it easy.

Nah, Repo Man is the one and only punk film. "Suburbia" is a drama "about" punks, it's pretty depressing, and doesn't have even a hint of the anarchic glee Repo Man has. Repo Man isn't a movie about punks, it's a punk movie. I've seen Repo Man about 150 times, I don't think I could watch Suburbia again.
