Suburbia 2

if any one knows the writter personaly or knows her emial adress or something
ask her about making suburbia 2

i have watched suburbia countless time it is a truley great movie. i have noticed that punk is coming back(most like becuase of the internet). i have noticed that punk is not the same as it was when i was a teen but, you can tell the mall punks apart from all the others.

i would deffinitly like to see a modern version of suburbia, see how the modern runaway punks act and see how the modern punk shows are (she did her research before and i think it was accurate i think she could do it agian).

i cant say i know how the new punk is. but i know hottopic punks are not the ones goin to shows.
why is that a bad idea?

reply

I'd like to see where all the original characters ended up... more of an actual sequel instead of a bigger budget remake, I've got a feeling if they did that it'd just end up feeling like SLC Punk more then the original

reply

or she could do a movie version of decline 3. suburbia was kinda based on her success with decline, right? so she could , make a movie about beggar punks.

reply

I don't think she could make another based on today's "Punk", it would be more like a comedy with all the Mall Punk's. I know some of the actors went on to acting careers,as for Flea of course we know whats up with him. Sububia was a movie based on the disenchanted punk DIY mentality of the eighties, the "punks' of this century do not even know what DIY stands for let alone do it.

reply

I know punk can never be the same as it was when we were punks. But i have look up some bands and there are alot of DIY punks still left alot of punk now is either more political or more oi. There are even still many bands for the 80s and early 90s still touring.

i was thinking the samething until i did some research and talk to some of the new punks. its not all hottopics and im rebelling agianst my parents. I dont live in the suburbs so im not sure if its different there.
but anways i think there are still a few true DIY punks out there.

I'm with you Lostintheflame, the whole function of the "new" punk is to not let the "other" punk get any atention and it is working if you judge it by this thread.

NO MORE REMAKES.
A sequel... eh.. no... sequels are for things like "The Brady Bunch Reunion."
It's bad enough they're supposedly remaking evil dead, and already with the texas chainsaw massacre. How do these people sleep at night. Punk existed in a time thta is no more... therefore, punk has evolved into a fashion trend, more than an idea. Punk had it's time, and I thought I was a part of it in 1995 because I listend to operation ivy, and DI, and of course the sex pistols... but punk was a reaction to the political/social climate of it's day. People are too apathetic to be truly punk, just because you dress like one, don't shower, and kick over trash cans doesnt make you punk.... it makes you a replication of something that already happened. If anyone wanted to make things more interesting, someone would come up with a new "term" for those that fall into the category I consider myself to fall in, which is one who doesn't buy into consumerism, and right wing republican/religion based ideals. One who essentially beyond all thinks for themselves. It's 2006 afterall, not 1982. So to say a remake/update/sequel is in order would do nothing but damage my teenage memory of what that movie was to me at the time. Even SLC punk had the guy who played shaggy from the scooby doo movies in it... what does that tell you?

reply

rock agianst bush isnt that in your opinion a punk album

DIY punk is definetly still out there. I live in the Chicago suburbs and go into chicago all the time because there's a thriving underground scene there. Most of the shows are either at hole in the wall coffee shops(No Exit Cafe, The Waiting Room) mexican restraunts or basements/warehouses(Albion House, The Ice Factory). Most of the people at the shows are in there 20's and 30's, But some teenagers come out. Punk and thrash acts from all over the world stop here on tour and make hardly enough money for gas but keep doing it.

yea megadeth is my favorite undergound punk rock bad too.

I am going to make the new one, it is going to be called Dumpster Diving-The Musical.
If they made suburbia 2, but had it be about the kids 24 years later, and the lives that they had, who knows what could come up. Based on the older punks in las vegas( an extension of SoCal) who still hung out in the mid 90s who were involoved with the punk scene of the 80s, things looked pretty bleak. The other ones just got married and moved to suburbia. Go figure...

why didnt u buy it??

They should like do a reunion with all the original actors. That would be hella cool man. And like have the vandals di and TSOL. That would be hella cool. Who agrees?

reply

If anything, MAYBE another "Decline", and that's a big maybe. I'm not sure it'd work. But DEFINITELY not another Suburbia... you don't mess with the classics. That's like making a sequel to Pulp Fiction

I dunno, if you could find the right area and keep the movie low budget without actual "actors" she could pull it off. Where i'm from(cleveland) there is a city(lakewood) where the punk scene is still very much alive, and it's not this "mall punk" that the 13-15 year olds are into, it's more so dedicated to the original roots of punk, I think it could work....

You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother... Gabe Ruth.

reply

Just like Deprater said, don't mess with a classic. If they made a remake you'll have the so called "punks"of today listening to stuff like Blink 182,Rancid and they would probaly play "Jeusus of suburbia"by Green Day at the opening and closing credits.

not everyone's into mtv bands and hot topic nowadays
i'd say there are some kids that know what the lifestyle means
but i've come to the conclusion punk is basically dead
i don't know
there are still kids keeping hope alive
that sounds cheesy
just ignore me
