Vinyl Containg Wright Up Of The Band History By The Drumer & Singer.

Sweet Jesus, I can’t believe this is here. I’d begun to think this record was merely a dream, no one seems to know of it. The only reason I know of it is because a friend had it back in the early 80s and he loved it. Pretty sure the blonde guy in Suburbia who went on to be in Platoon was the bassist in this band. In Suburbia, his car had a Patriots logo spray painted on it.

Patriots - Land Of The Free (Another Lousy Record) ‘83

Strange Reaction (Sorry Scott dont mean to dupe your post) posted this single back in May 2005 but didn't include the front cover, so here we have the very ugly cover of this amazing hardcore ep. Read more on Patriots at Strange Reaction. This single kinda reminds me of the Fix meet MDC…wrong or right?

I sang for Patriots on this EP.It is amazing how people still get a hold of it and have something to say about the songs. Do let me know if you are interested in the bands history and the LA Punk glory days.

I still have a bunch of these EPs, brand new. I wonder if there are any fans out there interested in getting a copy. We were a Los Angeles band. Chris Pedersen of Platoon fame formed the band, John Press on drums, Stuart Bjornlie on bass, Chris on lead guitar and vocals and I screaming. We rehearsed In John`s garage in Santa Monica and played a few memorable shows all over. Flipside 42 covered a gig at the Cathay de Grande and I am sure a few people have things to say about our existence.

PATRIOTS- Land of the Free 7″EP (Another Lousy Record, USA, 1983)
Recorded and mixed in one day on April 28 1983, the PATRIOTS one and only vinyl appearance ever is full of angst and anger! You really can sense the urgency and immediate power of the group on this slab – that’s what good old low-fi and analog recording techniques were capable of, just capturing and preserving one specific moment in time. Jeff Bale (in Sept 1983 MRR) complained about the production (and lack of originality) of this EP, but I’m pretty sure he’d feel different these days, when all the bands sound the same and play the same (crap).

There ain’t much I could tell you about the PATRIOTS other than they were from LA county and seem to have disappeared after this glorious piece of plastic (which is a rare find, actually). My fave would be “The Guilty walk free”, but every single song has a very specific aura and benefits from the very high pitched guitar (played by Chris Pedersen). A fantastic record, totally under-appreciated. Bizarre how some bands would just fly under the radar in a time when every little grain of sand seemed to reflect an enormous picture in todays perspective of the first (and only) wave of HC .

I got to see the Patriots play with Wasted Youth at Devonshire Downs in ’82 and that was a crazy gig until the pigs showed up and started busting heads.

LAND OF THE FREE 7"
Label: Another Lousy Record
Released: 1983

1. Land of the Free
2. Nobody No More
3. Strangling Me
4. Can't Wait
5. The Guilty Walk Free
6. Bang, Bang, Bang
Reviews:

This new political band from southern Cal is sort of like a cross between M.D.C. and the HATED. Perceptive lyrics and a primitive production add strength to these gruff thrash and punk ditties, but they could use a bit more originality. Still, these are the kind of patriots we need more of.
-Jeff Bale, from MRR #8, Sept. 1983

Oh man... the "Sweet Jesus, I can’t believe this is here" post sounds exactly like what I would say. I googled it and sure enough it's got my name on it. And the date it was posted is the exact date on the mp3s I have on my drive... going on 8 years ago. Too funny.
