kitschy?
When I saw this film, I was reminded of kitschy '70s movie musicals such as "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and, to a lesser extent, "Flash Gordon." Anyone else have the same reaction?

No. I loved both Rocky and even that cheesy Flash. This was putrid.
shareI didn't mean to imply that this film was as enjoyable as the other two, just that they seemed to share a lot of elements -- they're all outré, fantastical films backed by pseudo-operatic music. Frankly, I found much of this film mystifying and inscrutable, and one year later, I am not eager to re-watch it to try to understand it better. I think it suffers from lacking the self-conscious irony that "Rocky" and "Flash Gordon" had, although perhaps some subtleties were lost in the translation from the French.
