The horny mom, the boyfriend and the daughter

What was the point of this subplot? I know that asking something like that about this kind of movie is kind of pointless, but they invested a fair amount of screen time, including I think an exclusive scene with just the mom and the boyfriend, setting the mom and the boyfriend up as some kind likely affair, only to have the boyfriend come over while the daughter was in the shower and end up in a sex scene where the mom catches them.

Which I guess was an amusing twist, maybe, but there was no payoff beyond that. We never saw mom or the boyfriend again in that context and nothing was ever mentioned about that situation.

I always thought it was just a snippet of life in the Valley...

I mean maybe, but the whole subplot seemed too well developed to just kind of drop like that. They spent decent time at the party developing it, then the scene at the pool, and I think once more (maybe without the mom, but with the boyfriend guy kind of ignoring the girl).

His reluctant interest in the girl and the mom's obvious interest seemed *so* well developed that to have the girl and the boyfriend wind up having sex later seemed kind of jarring.

It wouldn't have surprised me if they had actually written a mom-and-boyfriend hook up. I read the producers required 4 scenes with bare breasts to drive male interest in the film, having the mom topless would have been an easy way to achieve this, especially since they could have cast an older actress more willing to go topless, perhaps bonus points for a semi-famous Playboy model or something.

I mean, you *might* be overthinking this (although you might not). This isn't a high-brow film we're talking about here, it's a low rent film that was entertaining and enlightening (assuming it represents the valley life - I have no direct knowledge).

For good or bad, I thought the whole minor subplot thing was interesting and entertaining. Maybe in an earlier draft it was a bigger story that got reduced in the rewrite, but I never really thought it stood out like sore thumb.

During that final scene, we all thought the boy would end up in bed with the mom because he went to the house for that purpose. The reveal of him in bed with the daughter was kind of a Twilight Zone twist.

I thought it worked well as is.

Yeah it’s weird how the subplot fizzled out. Same issue with the Loryn and Tommy subplot - great dramatic setup that just got dropped. It’s ropey screenwriting. I wonder if these things got lost in the edit for some reason, or the female director lacked story structure skills 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought the Twilight Zone twist ending was fun. Skip specifically went to the house to have sex with the mother but found the daughter home and bed her instead.

It’s fine but given the amount of screentime I expected this love triangle to have some relevance to the overall story and to see these characters again. Instead the movie just forgets about them half way through.
