Call me dumb...but was she hitting on the kid Suzi liked or was she trying in her own unique way of trying to fix him up with her daughter?

shareSkip was so obviously GAY GAY GAY.I wondered the same thing about Pee Wee in Pee Wee's Big adventure when Dottie (who was ironically enough played by the same actress who played Loryn). But that isn't really fair for you or I to assume he's gay maybe he was just shy. I passed up numerous opportunities in my teens and 20's but I am straight (ie; heterosexual). But then again Skip did end up in bed with Suzi so he obviously was neither gay or shy.

"Plastics" was a reference to "The Graduate." In that movie, Dustin Hoffman plays a new graduate, and one older dude tells him: "I have one word of advice for you: plastics." Plastics were an up-and-coming business at that time (1968, I think?)
What does that have to do with Valley Girl? Nothing directly, except that the main plot of The Graduate was that Dustin Hoffman's girlfriend's mother (Mrs. Robinson) tried to seduce him. And succeeded. Just like Beth was trying to do with Skip. Beth was trying to slyly tell him that she wanted to jump his bones. But the reference went completely over his head!
I just re-watched the film tonight and also got the reference.
