Swayze's acting

I hate to say this, but I thought his performance was a little forced. Over the top at times. I could see him acting. With all of these heavy weight actors, his lack of acting experience was apparent. RIP.

He apparently replaced James Remar, a much better character actor and would have likely given a stronger performance. In spite of Swayze's forced performance—he was an average to good actor only—when I first viewed this film at the cinema in 1984, his character and looks, left the biggest impression on me. He then went on to become quite popular throughout the 80's and early 90's. I must have been struck by the star quality and charisma he possessed.

Remar is a good actor although a little one note. He can't really play sympathetic or vulnerable like this part required. This is also the reason he was wrong for aliens

I'm watching this movie right now and I was just thinking that all the performances seem pretty over-the-top and forced. The dialogue is pretty cliché and corny. Even Hackman is having a hard time not seeming like a ham.

It's supposed to be a little over the top and fun like the old war movies in the 60s. Not boring and maudlin like war movies now where every soldier is a tortured soul

he looked like he was having an orgasm when firing the BAR

I just switched to this on television and thought immediately that it was a comedy. That is bad. Some parts seems serious after I turned it on but still seems pretty bad to give more than a 6 rating. This is even before Patrick did Red Dawn really great performance and movie. I rather watch Red Dawn than this one anytime.

No more IMDB boards for me!

A "little" forced? He was abysmal. I couldn't keep from laughing every time he appeared and did his hammy acting. That said this film isn't exactly Apocalypse Now.
