TCM AIRING - BRIEF UPDATE (GOOD-ISH NEWS!)
First of all, a big shout out to IMDb user TravelingCoder, who has pointed out that the film is now available to watch for free on Xfinity on Demand (via TCM)(see my reminder post for the exact details - it's apparently only available until February 7th).
Secondly, I have not yet had the chance to watch the movie, but I have gotten to examine it a little, and this is what I have discovered so far (and I will say that I was a bit pleasantly surprised):
-TCM rated the film TV-14
-The film was aired in the old Academy aspect ratio (approx. 1.37:1, or more likely 1.33:1 in this case)
-Botch's opening speech was the censored version (this is one of only two scenes that I have viewed)
-The only other scene that I viewed was the one where Botch threw out Scuzzbopper's newly-finished manuscript. The scene closed with a dejected Scuzzbopper walking away, muttering something that was almost inaudible. I backed up the film, cranked up the volume, and turned on the captions. Turns out, that "something" was a seven-letter synonym for the anus that is used to describe unpleasant persons (and which I often mutter to myself whenever some idiot gets in front of me without using their turn signal, which happens pretty much every time I drive). I now see why TCM rated the film TV-14 - turns out it wasn't completely censored!
In conclusion: THE MOVIE WAS NOT COMPLETELY CENSORED. I think we all need to shower TCM with affection now, just for airing it in any form!
