Never liked the 3rd act. EVER!

The train ride. The black face. The gorilla. Etc. Terrible.

OK. Go away now.

NAILED IT.

reply

Why? It's a great movie until the 3rd act. This movie is 'exhibit A' of 'where was the script doctors?'

reply

Intothenight, it's New Year's Eve. A fancy dress party on a train. What is the problem? They needed to be on the train to intercept Beeks and plant the false crop report. Again, what's the problem?

reply

What's the problem?
Obvious really. The OP is suffering from a bout of PC

reply

I actually agree. I love this movie, but it gets a little sloppy at the end.

reply

I wasn't really too fond of the train scenes either but did like the trading scene where the Dukes get their comeuppance along with Billy and Louis getting the real crop report.

reply

yeah you got a point there, the train sequence was boring in an otherwise great fun movie, as this was airing i even forgot that part would come up, it's like it doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie. neat how this got sort of a sequel in "coming to america" with the two brothers. the garage scene was set like "all the presidents men" and kermit the frog in "family guy" which dan aykroyd by he way has guest voiced in. they should've had more of a close up at the end when ophelia stands on the boat in a bikini, ophelia is also a great song from 1980 by ray charles on the album "brother ray is at it again". how unbearable were winthorpe's snobbish friends who later turned their backs on him. what a great cast this movie has. i can't believe how freely people could talk and joke around in older movies, that makes them age very well and you can choose them over corny modern movies busy to make moral statements. some of the highlights were murphy's encounter with the big guy in jail who later ends up in his house party and the cameo from rock n roller bo diddley.

wanna put you on the clocks hands,
and rock on out of here,
and no matter what hour hands point,
like sunshine always will glow.

Just yesterday, I discovered a Mariah Carey song with samples of dialogue from this movie, including the big guy from the prison. It was such a cool surprise when I heard their voices.
