Is What Happened To Louis Legally Accurate?

He's been arrested and out on bail. Until the trial, he is presumed innocent. So, would the IRS really be able to freeze his bank account and the bank manager be authorized to take all of his credit cards? Even the ones that maybe didn't come from that bank? How can the IRS and bank leave him high and dry with nothing to live on and no way to pay his legal fees?

reply

Freezing his bank accounts is completely legal. As for repossessing his credit cards, that is up to the banks of the time so that, too, is legal.

I had to assume that because of how rich the Dukes were, they could easily throw money at the situation and whatever they wanted to have happen, legal or not, would happen.

Yeah, the police station was a bit absurd.
As for his accounts being frozen, that is actually very legit.

If you are suspected of having dirty money the government will seize it until YOU PROVE that the money is legitimate. That requires a lawyer. A lawyer requires money, and Winthorpe had none.
He was proper phvked.

Guilty until proven innocent. Deprived of property without due process. SMO in the land of the fee and the home of the slave.
