Mistake at the end... (Spoiler)

***Spoiler Listed***

I love this movie but one thing has always bugged me about the end. The Tigers are down 3-1. After Billy gets the hit and begins to round the bases, one Tiger is shown scoring. Then the movie cuts to the scoreboard going up by one run putting the score at 3-2 Orioles. After this, Billy is the only one shown on the bases and no one from the Tigers is shown crossing the plate. The scoreboard is never shown again either. So at this point, the score is still 3-2 Orioles. However, when Billy scores on his inside the park homer, the Tigers are shown winning.

When Billy was called safe by the umpire, the score should have been tied at 3-3. They really needed to show two runners score and the scoreboard twice to establish at the game was tied before Billy scored. With the way that the film was edited, it looks like Billy tied the game up.

Exactly! Just watched this film for the first time tonight. Could it be because they edited it down to 75 minutes for TV (btw the VHS version is just as long) that that key scene was removed?

I also thought that the dad's death was badly set up too. He goes out of the house after his dad is in bed (with no setup minus him sweating a bit 10 minutes earlier in the film) then comes back and there are 20 people at a wake at home? At least put in a title card of 12 hours later...makes no sense.

Otherwise I did enjoy this movie, though it did feel quite chopped in the editing department.
