Definitely true. He sensed a flirtation between his mother and the stranger. His parents just had a screaming match before they went to the grocery store. Even though he was a child, Tommy understood that his mom was ripe for some positive attention from an attractive, charming man.
I do feel bad for Emma though when she doesn't have enough money and had to "put some things back." Tomy flips out when she puts back the candy bars.
"You said I could have something!"
Not exactly bratty, just something a self absorbed child (is there any other kind?) would say. He was oblivious to his mother's embarrassment at that moment.
One other scene i always laugh at is early on during Aurora's dinner party.
Aurora's suitor is nervous about the "short gentleman."
I love the way Danny de Vito praises Aurora.
"I met her in church. You might say she's God's gift to Vernon Dahlart."
When asked, "So you like her"?, he responds, "Oh no! Does it show?"
