I really enjoyed this movie on TCM last night, but I missed the first five minutes or so. How does he end up at the motel? Was he traveling alone or did he somehow get left behind? Was he on tour? Did he have a bender in his motel room?
shareYou didn't miss anything--the film opens with a shot of the darkened motel room and the voices of Mack and some unidentified man fighting over a bottle of whiskey. The opening credits run over this sequence, then there is a cut to the next day, when Rosa Lee finds him in the room. She tells him that his "friend" abandoned him, and since he has no money to pay for his room, he goes to work for her to settle his debt.
