Love this movie

This has been an adored movie of mine since I was a kid. It was is a sweet, gentle film that always left me feeling content.

Even as an adult though, there were always things about it which bugged me but I try to remember that this movie likely reflected the time and was made this way deliberately.

The things which annoyed me were silly things such as everyone seemed so neautral or melancholy. Mac and his wife didn't seem in love, though you know they were. It also felt a bit disjointed and I had no idea over what period of time this movie was meant to have taken. Was it a year? Two? He sort of showed up. Then next thing he sort of proposed. Then they married off camera. I was also sort of sad they didn't seem to be having their own kids but again, if a short time period understandable.

Basically the pacing confused me and still does in some ways however none of this detracts from the fact it's a wonderful film and Duvall is extraordinary in it.
