Gazarra was pretty good, but I thought Ornella Muti was a little miscast (Bukowski was an infamous womanizer, but he didn't usually go with gorgeous fashion models, which is really what Muti looks like here). I also thought "Barfly" was pretty good except I wasn't sure sometimes whether Mickey Rourke was doing Bukowski or W.C. Fields. There's also a new movie "Factotum" with Matt Dillon which I haven't seen yet.

My favorite Bukowski film though is definitely the Belgian film ""Love is a Dog from Hell" (aka "Crazy Love"). That film though is more based on his short stories (like "The Copulating Mermaid of Venice Beach") and less on his real life exploits.

Wow, I just keep learning about new Bukowski films - never heard of the Belgian one. Have to look into that. Factotum was good. Barfly was good. Tales was great. Not sure why critics didn't like it - maybe for 1981 it was too ahead of its time. Bukowsky loved it at first, then turned on it. That was very much like him. Gazarra is, to me, the best Bukowski on celluloid, even if it is the "fictional" Bukowski. Then again, the real guy created his own character as well. ;-)
